Concord, NH (12/8/2011) -
The New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation’s
Bureau of Trails is seeking a private-public
partnership for the development and management
of a proposed campground at Jericho Mountain
State Park in Berlin, New Hampshire. The park
is the central hub property for Coos Counties’
Off-Highway Recreational Vehicle (OHRV) trails
and proposed regional trail system.
The Master Development Plan for the property
includes a campground of up to 200 sites which
would cater to the OHRV community and other
campers. Jericho Mountain State Park is being
developed with the target audience of ATVs
and approximately half of the proposed 140
miles of trails have been completed. The park
is host to the annual Jericho ATV Festival
in July and also hosts a concentration of
snowmobile corridor and primary trails.
The Bureau of Trails is spearheading the
search for the Division of Parks and Recreation
to find a private partner to build and develop
the campground as well as run the facility
through a lease from the Division for an initial
20-year term. “The increase in ATV and
OHRV recreational trails in Northern New Hampshire
is providing for a great economic opportunity
for local businesses that accommodate off-road
recreational trail users. The addition of
this highly needed camping facility would
greatly complement the existing and future
opportunities in the region,” stated
Bureau of Trails Chief Chris Gamache.
The Bureau anticipates that if a successful
bidder is found, construction would begin
next spring with occupancy for initial sites
possibly being ready by late summer of 2012.
The Request for Proposals, draft lease and
other documents can all be found on the Division
of Parks & Recreation’s website
www.nhstateparks.org,
under Jericho Mountain State Park.
