Reynoldsburg, OH (6/17/2010)
- Mushin Racing’s Ashton Ward went
1-1 to take his first overall win in the 50 Limited
class at round six of the 2010 AMA ATV Motocross
Championships, while Pro-am racer Chase Snapp
would finish in a strong second in the Pro-am
Production class.
Spring Creek was the hosting facility for round
six and despite the rough track conditions and
rain on Saturday, 50 Limited class racer, Ashton
Ward would put on a hard charge to take his
first win. In the first moto, Ward was in second
off the start and came on strong, recording
the fastest lap of the moto in lap four with
a time of 01:51.748. That blistering time was
also enough to propel him into the lead and
give him the moto one win. In moto two, Ward
once again came off the line in second, but
his hard charge soon had him again recording
the fastest lap time with a time of 01:48.409,
even faster than in moto one. Ward would take
over the lead in lap four and hold off the competition
to take the moto two win and the top spot on
the podium. “Ashton was so pumped. He
is really motivated now and is practicing hard
so he can win again,” stated Scott Ward,
Mushin Racing’s team owner.

Kodi Ward pulled double duty at Spring
Creek & ran both the 70cc Mod class
& his regular 90cc Auto Jr class,
he went 9-4 for fifth overall & 11-3
for seventh overall respectively |
Kodi Ward, who decided to try his hand at the
70 Modified class, had good results. Ward would
take 9-4 finishes and claim fifth overall for
the day. “This was only Kodi’s second
time in that class and he did a great job. We
are very happy with his performance,”
said Scott Ward. In the 90 Auto, Jr. class,
Kodi Ward ran into mechanical issues in both
motos, but Ward hung in there, taking eleventh
in moto one and an impressive third in the second
moto, giving him seventh overall.
In the Pro-am Production class, Chase Snapp
came on strong and battled hard against Joel
Hetrick in the first moto to take the moto one
win. In moto two, Snapp came off the line in
third and soon took over second. Snapp was closing
in on Hetrick but ran out of time before he
could get close enough to make a move. Snapp’s
solid 1-2 finishes gave him the second spot
on the Pro-am podium and still has him as the
class points leader. Snapp was also looking
impressive in the Pro-am Unlimited class as
he went 2-1 to take the overall win.

Jeffrey Rastrelli put on a hard charge in the
Pro-am Production class as well. Rastrelli got
off to a mid-pack start in moto one and quickly
worked his way through traffic to take over
the number three spot by the mid-way point.
Rastrelli would hold down his position all the
way to the checkered flag. In moto two, Rastrelli
was looking good but would run into some issues
in lap four and fall back to ninth. Rastrelli
would make a charge and work up to sixth before
reaching the finish line. Rastrelli’s
solid performance gave him the number four spot
overall for the day. Rastrelli also had an impressive
showing in the Pro-am Unlimited class as he
would take the moto one win and finish fourth
in moto two, giving him a solid third overall.
In the Pro ranks, Cody Gibson would hang on
for 9-12 finishes to take eleventh overall.
Thomas Brown, who has been on the podium twice
this season, dealt with set-up issues in moto
one, giving him and eight place finish and in
the second moto, the number 84 would break his
chain in the third lap, ending things early
for him; however Brown is still holding strong
in the points chase in sixth place.
“In all we had a good weekend. Spring
Creek is a top notch facility and the team had
a great time here. I was really impressed with
everything, especially the mini track,”
said Scott Ward, who is looking forward to another
strong showing from his team at round seven,
which will be held on June 19th – 20th
at Muddy creek in Blountville, TN.
