Can-Am/
Motoworks' Josh Frederick placed third
at WORCS Round 7 at Glen Helen |
Vista, CA (9/22/2011) –
Motoworks’ Josh Frederick charged his
way to the podium at round number seven of the
2011 WORCS series, tightening the points race
between himself and teammate Jeremie Warnia,
who finished in the top five and bringing the
championship battle into the final two rounds.
Glen Helen was the hosting facility for round
number seven that saw good weather and good
track conditions that only helped the Motoworks
team finish well and increase their points
over their competitors.
Josh Frederick, who closed in on the points
lead after taking the win at round number
six at Washougal was looking to top the podium
again and charged off the start in the top
five. Frederick recorded the fastest lap of
the race in lap four with a time of 11:12.387
and had worked his way into second place and
was closing in on the leader. In the next
lap, Frederick came upon a rider who had crashed
and was pinned underneath his quad. . “When
I came into the Pro section, one of the Pro-am
racers, Grant Mitchell had crashed and was
stuck under his quad. He couldn’t get
out so me and Beau Baron stopped and helped
him,” explained Frederick, who is known
for his incredible sportsmanship.
Frederick and Baron made sure the other rider
was safe and off the track before they continued,
but the pause allowed the rest of the pack
to catch up. “I didn’t have a
gap anymore and we were all bunched back together,
so when I had to stop for fuel in the next
lap, that let a couple people get by me,”
said Frederick. From there, Frederick put
is head down and charged back into the number
four spot and in the final lap, he was able
to capitalize on another racer’s mistake
and move into third, securing him the final
spot on the pro podium. Josh Frederick is
only three points off the lead, with the one
throw away the pro class was given this season,
and he is determined to hang onto his championship
status. “I really want to win the last
two races so I can keep the number one plate
for the Can-Am/Motoworks team,” stated
Frederick.

Can-Am's
WORCS Points Leader Jeremie Warnia had
some bad luck by connecting with another
rider. Despite the collision Warnia
still crossed the finish in fifth |
Motoworks Dillon Zimmerman has
been consistent all season aboard his
Can-Am DS450. Zimmerman placed seventh
at Glen Helen Raceway |
Current points leader, Jeremie Warnia was
looking incredibly fast as he came off the
start in second place. Warnia was immediately
challenging for the lead and in the second
lap, he went for the pass and took the lead.
Warnia held the lead for several laps before
he would connect with another rider and fall
back to second. In the next lap, Warnia encountered
issues and was forced to pull off the track
to replace a wheel. Warnia pushed hard, but
was only able to work into the number five
spot before reaching the checkered flag. Warnia
is still the points leader and could still
very well take the pro championship.
Dillon Zimmerman has been incredibly consistent
this season despite dealing with an injury
earlier in the year, and that consistency
carried over to round seven. Zimmerman was
looking strong and smooth despite challenges
from several racers. Zimmerman held on to
take a seventh place finish and is hoping
for a top five at round number eight.
Round number eight of the 2011 WORCS series
will be heading to Race Town 395 in Adelanto,
CA on October 21st – 23rd and with only
two rounds left in the season, and only a
few points separating Jeremie Warnia and Josh
Frederick, there will be plenty of excitement
and competition as the team races for the
podium and the pro championship.
