Chad Wienen brings home the #1 Plate for
Motoworks with the DWT World ATV MX Pro
Championship |
Vista, CA (2/12/2010) - After
a tough weekend for the Can-Am Motoworks team
that included the loss of their race rig and
nasty weather, Chad Wienen came out victorious
and claimed the first ever DWT World ATV Motocross
Pro Championship.
On Friday afternoon, the Can-Am Motoworks race
rig was on its way to the Cahuilla Creek MX
Park for the final two rounds of the DWT World
ATV Motocross Championship series, but disaster
struck on Highway 15 in Temecula, CA when the
trailer section of the rig caught on fire. Everything
in the trailer was a total loss including Chad
Wienen’s DS450 race quad.
The Motoworks’ crew pulled an all-nighter,
and was able to get a new Can-Am DS450 ready
for the weekend’s races. “Everyone
really came through for me and I can’t
thank them enough,” said Chad Wienen,
whose championship was on the line.
At Saturday’s round seven, Chad Wienen
was ready to go, but Mother Nature decided to
give racers an additional challenge with a lot
of rain, which caused mud and standing water
to be abundant. Due to the track conditions,
Wienen decided to play it smart and paced himself.
“My motto for this year is ‘no DNF’s’,
so I played it safe,” he said. Wienen’s
strategy paid off as he took a 3-2 finish at
round seven, which gave him second overall,
and allowed him to keep his points lead.
Sunday’s round eight would be the final
round of the series, and Wienen was determined
to take his first championship for the Motoworks’
team. The rain had let up and the track had
dried out nicely providing almost perfect conditions.
In moto one, Chad Wienen would claim a third
place finish, but in moto two, there was no
stopping him.
In the second moto, Wienen made a pass on Josh
Upperman to take over the lead, and one out
front, the number 44 Can-Am checked out. Wienen
would go on to take the moto two win and the
first ever DWT World ATV Motocross Pro Championship.
“It feels great to be able to give Can-Am
and Motoworks a championship my first year with
the team!” exclaimed Wienen.
Now that the DWT world ATV MX series has come
to an end, Chad Wienen will be concentrating
on training and testing so that he will be ready
for the first round of the 2010 AMA ATV Motocross
Nationals, where he and the rest of the team
are hoping to dominate the podium.
