Motoworks' Chad Wienen Takes 2nd Overall
at Mill Creek AMA ATV MX Season Opener |
Vista, CA (4/2/2010) - Motoworks’
Chad Wienen came on strong in round one of the
2010 AMA ATV Motocross Championship to claim the
second spot on the podium while teammate John
Natalie’s solid performance landed him in
the top five.
This year, Mill Creek in Pell City, AL was
the hosting facility for the season opener.
Rain showers were forecast off and on for the
day, with a brief downpour moving through shortly
before pro moto one was to begin, making things
a bit slick, but it didn’t really seem
to matter much as the anticipation of the first
race of the season fueled the wave of excitement
in the air.
As the gate dropped for moto one, Chad Wienen
was in mid pack off the line and began a hard
charge that saw him move into fifth place before
the end of lap one. Wienen held that position
for several laps before moving into fourth where
he would stay until crossing the finish line.
By the second moto, the track had dried out
and conditions were much improved, which helped
Wienen move through traffic. Wienen soon found
himself back in the number four spot, right
behind Joe Byrd. From there it was an all out
battle as the pair swapped positions several
times over the course of a few laps. “Joe
and I were going back and forth and then finally
I was able to get around him and make it stick.
From there, I really pushed hard and was able
to pull away a little,” explained Wienen.
Wienen’s consistent 4-3 finishes was
enough to secure him the number two spot on
the podium. “I’m really happy to
be able to come out here and start the season
on the podium. I really have to thank all of
my sponsors, Can-Am and the Motoworks team.
Johnny (Leach) and the rest of the team have
done an awesome job!” said Wienen, who
plans to be on top of the box at round two.
John Natalie, Jr. came on strong in moto one.
Natalie had a great start, taking fourth off
the line. Natalie would battle hard with Josh
Creamer for a couple of laps and was able to
sneak underneath to take the lead when Creamer
went high in the berm, allowing Natalie to finish
in a solid third for moto one. In moto two,
Natalie was in mid pack off the line and worked
hard to make his way to the number five spot
before crossing the finish line, giving him
fourth overall for the day.

Jeremie Warnia |
Jeremie Warnia had a great first moto. Warnia
was seventh off the line and pushed hard to
make his way to the top five before reaching
the checkered flag. In moto two, Warnia was
beginning to feel ill which slowed, which slowed
his efforts, giving him 11th overall for the
day. “Jeremie pulled a really solid fifth
in the first moto, but he was feeling really
ill by the time the second moto rolled around.
He still pushed hard and did what he needed
to do out there,” said Johnny Leach.
“Everything went well and everyone did
a great job out there,” said team owner/manager
Johnny Leach. “John and Chad were really
fast this weekend, but I expect them to be even
faster at Bowling Green. That track suit their
riding style and it suits the attributes of
the Can-Am DS450 as well, so we expect to win
at Bowling Green,” Leach stated confide
ntly.
Round two of the 2010 AMA ATV Motocross Championships
will be held on April 18th at Ballance MX in
Bowling Green, KY where the Can-Am/Motoworks
team plans to dominate the podium.
