- The Finke Desert race is over for another
year. I am pleased to report that both Rob and
I made it to Finke and back in one piece. My
Outlaw 525 IRS and Robs Outlaw 450 MXR worked
flawlessly all weekend,
only needing an oil and filter change at the
Finke end.
I succeeded backing up my last year’s
result with another 3rd spot. The race was really
close with only 2 ½ minutes separating
myself and fellow Polaris Rider Luke Beechey
in 1st spot. Can Am’s X team rider Chad
McKay finished 1 minute off the leader. I battled
with both riders all the way home from Finke.
I passed luke to take the lead around 170km
from home, this was short lived with luke taking
the overall back from me at the first fuel stop
at the 160km mark.
Both Chad and I battled for 2nd spot all the
way from the 150km mark to them 40km to go.
With Chad making a pass in some dusty whoops
and managing to dust me in his wake to take
2nd place 1 ½ minutes in front of me.
Rob finished with a respectable 9th overall,
in his first attempt he managed to finish strong
with a faster time home than on the way up.
Overall times are still being collated and
I will report a full wrap of the event and pictures
in the coming days.
