MCR
/ Maxxis Racing's Beau Baron took second
in the WORCS Pro ATV class at Washougal |
Bonsall, CA (8/25/2011) - MCR/Maxxis
Tire’s Beau Baron came on strong at round
number six of the 2011 WORCS series, taking a
podium finish, while teammate David Haagsma would
round out the top five in the pro class.
The last time Beau Baron raced at Washougal
was when he was still on two wheels and he was
looking forward to returning to the track in
Washington State to race through the trees and
on the national caliber motocross track. The
track conditions and weather were ideal and
allowed Baron to charge his way to the podium.
Baron was in second place off the start and
made quick work of Josh Frederick on the motocross
track, taking the lead just a few turns into
the first lap. Baron was holding a solid lead
and looked fast and consistent as he stayed
out front for half of the race. Baron stopped
to pit at the mid-way point and fell back to
third. Baron remounted a charge and worked his
way back to second quickly, but was unable to
make up enough time to take back the lead, giving
him second place on the Pro podium.
“The motocross section of the track was
good and it allowed me to get out front early
and lead for a good part of the race,”
said Baron, who is currently third in the pro
points chase.

top ten the Pro Points in eleventh place
with 58 points |
David
Haagsma rode to a top five finish placing
fifth aboard his MCR Honda TRX450R ATV |
David Haagsma was in the number four spot early
in the race and held his position for several
laps as he held off Jarrod McClure. The pair
battled for several laps before Haagsma would
fall back. Haagsma rode the rest of his race
unchallenged to round out the top five. Haagsma’s
consistency this season has earned him fifth
in points and he is only four points away from
fourth place Dustin Nelson. With a little luck
and some hard work, Haagsma could end his season
in the number four spot in the points race.
In the Women’s A class, Julie Russell
took an early lead, but fell back to the number
two spot in the second lap. Despite recording
the fastest lap time of the race in lap three,
with a time of 10:07.713, Russell stayed in
the number two spot for the rest of the race.
Russell, however is still has a commanding points
lead with 144 points; nineteen points ahead
of her nearest competitor as is looking to bring
home another Women’s A championship for
the team.
Round number seven of the 2011 WORCS series
will be heading to Glen Helen in San Bernardino
on September 16th – 18th where Beau Baron
took the win last season and is hoping for a
repeat performance to top the podium again this
year.
