MCR
/ Maxxis Racing's Beau Baron took second
in the WORCS Pro ATV class |
Bonsall, CA (6/13/2011) - MCR/Maxxis
Tire’s Beau Baron put in an impressive run
at round number five of the 2011 WORCS series
to claim second place on the Pro podium, while
David Haagsma grabbed the pro holeshot and hung
on for fourth, and Julie Russell again dominated
the Women’s A class, taking her fourth straight
win of the season.
Dusty conditions were on hand at Clay Peaks
MX in Payette, ID but MCR/Maxxis Tire’s
Beau Baron wasn’t going to let that stop
him from getting to the podium.
Baron was in fifth off the start and quickly
made his way into third by the end of the first
lap. In the second lap, Baron caught a break
when he came into the WORCS-X section to find
Josh Frederick and Dustin Nelson both hung up.
“I came into that section and saw Josh
was stuck, and then I looked over and saw Dustin
stuck, so I was pretty stoked to be able to
just move into second like that,” said
Baron.

Baron
finished less than one second behind first
place aboard his Honda TRX450R ATV |
From there, Baron charged ahead and began to
chase down leader Jeremie Warnia, who had over
a one minute lead on Baron. Baron charged hard
and laid down some incredible lap times, closing
the gap by 30 seconds. Unfortunately, Baron
ran out of time before reaching the checkered
flag. “I think if we would have had that
extra half hour I could have caught Warnia.
I was laying down faster lap times than he was
in the last half of the race, so I think I could
have done it,” said Baron, who is currently
third in pro points.

David
Haagsma took the ATV Pro Holeshot and
finished with a respectful fourth place |
David Haagsma was looking good as he grabbed
the pro holeshot, but unfortunately for Haagsma,
he lost his seat early in the first lap, causing
him to fall back. Haagsma charged hard and was
able to hang on for a solid fourth place finish.
Haagsma is also doing well in the points chase
as he is currently rounding out the top five.
“Both Beau and David did great out there
this weekend. The track was really dusty and
it was hard to see. I should know because I
was towards the back eating everyone else’s
dust,” quipped team manager, Mike Cafro.

Reigning
Women's A Class Champion Julie Russell
took another win at Round 5 |
In the Women’s A class, Julie Russell
again showed why she is the reigning champ.
Russell grabbed the holeshot and never looked
back. Russell led from start to finish, recording
the fastest lap time of her class in lap two
with a time of 12:22.333. Russell stayed consistent
and pulled away to take the Women’s A
win by over five and a half minutes ahead of
second place.
The MCR/Maxxis team will be training hard over
the next several weeks before heading to Washougal,
WA on August 20th – 21st where Beau Baron
and Julie Russell will both be looking for the
win.
