Beau Baron overcame mechanical
issues to finish 7th in the Pro Class |
Bonsall, CA (1/28/2011) - MCR
/ Maxxis Tire’sBeau Baron and David Haagsma
both came on strong to take top ten finishes in
the first race of the 2011 WORCS series, while
defending Women’s A champion, Julie Russell
finished on the Women’s podium.
Honolulu Hills in Taft, CA played host
to the first round of the 2011 WORCS
series that would see Beau Baron make
one of the hardest charges of his racing
career. As racers left the line, a mishap with
Baron’s twist throttle slowed his
progress in the first lap and set him back by
three minutes. Repairs were made and
Baron pushed it to the limits as he made his
way through traffic.
Although the track was made for high speed,
making it difficult to make up time, Baron’s
incredible determination allowed him to record
the fastest lap time of the race in lap four
with a time of 11:48.736. That determination
also allowed him to work his way into a respectable
seventh place before crossing the finish line.
“I went out there and gave it everything
I had. I think if I would have had just a half
a lap more, I could have gained a couple more
positions,” said Baron.

David Haagsma Takes 8th Place |
David Haagsma, who made the jump to the pro
class this season, was looking solid and consistent.
Haagsma was in fifth off the start and would
end his day in eighth place overall. “He
did a good job out there and I think he is going
to have a very good season,” said team
manager, Mike Cafro, of Haagsma’s performance.
Earlier this year, 2010 Women’s A champ,
Julie Russell had made the decision to sit out
the 2011 season, but Russell, who is a true
competitor could not just sit by and watch her
championship status slip away, so at the last
minute, Russell decided she was going to compete
in the 2011 season and came on strong.

Julie Russell claims the 2nd Spot |
Russell pulled the fastest lap time of the
race in the final lap with a time of 12:58.772
and took a solid second place finish despite
riding one of the team’s practice quads
that wasn’t even set up for her. “Julie
decided at the last minute that she wanted to
race, so we didn’t even have a bike set
up for her. The shocks were definitely a little
stiffer than what she is used to, but Julie
is a really trooper and she did great out there,”
stated Cafro.
The second round of the 2011 WORCS series will
be heading to the famed
Buffalo Bill’s in Primm, NV on February
26-27 where Beau Baron will be
seeking redemption and on the hunt for his first
win of the season.
