Beau Baron was
feeling good this past weekend &
let the competition know it as well
when he pulled off the win!
|
Bonsall, CA (5/28/2010) - It
was a great weekend for the Mike Cafro Racing/Maxxis
Tires team as Beau Baron checked out on the competition
to take the Pro win at round five of the 2010
WORCS series. Teammates Josh Row and Levi Marana
would claim top five finishes in the Pro class
while Julie Russell would take the win in the
Women’s A class and David Haagsma would
top the podium in the Pro-am class.
Honey Lake MX Park in Milford, CA was the hosting
facility for round five and despite it being
the middle of May snow was falling for Saturday’s
races. Although it didn’t stick around
long, the slushy snow did make for some wet
conditions for the team, but no one seemed to
really mind as Honey Lake is a favorite track
among the MCR Maxxis team.
Beau Baron made it very clear that the rocky
terrain of Honey Lake suited him and his riding
style perfectly. Baron charged off the line,
quickly working himself into the number two
spot behind Josh Frederick. After a lap long
battle, Baron would make his move and take over
the lead. Baron would put a nice 40 second gap
between him and the competition, and lay down
the fastest lap time of the race in lap three
with a time of 08:34:963. Baron would hold his
lead for 13 laps to take the Pro ATV win and
close in on the pro points lead. “I really
needed to take this win. My quad ran great and
everything just worked out really well for me.
This track is one of my favorites because the
terrain is like what I ride on at home all the
time, so it really suits me and I think it also
gave me an advantage out there,” said
Baron, who is now only four points off the pro
points lead.

#5 Josh Row rode
a strong race yet again & came away
with a 4th place overall finish on the
day
|
Josh Row once again ran a strong and consistent
race. Row was just outside of the top five off
the start and began to move forward. Row paced
himself and soon found his way to the number
four spot, where he would finish out his day.
Row’s consistency so far this season has
him sitting in a comfortable third place in
the points race.
Levi Marana also was looking good as he would
come from a mid-pack start and work his way
through traffic. Marana would put out a strong
effort and take over the number five spot at
the mid-way point and hold it all the way to
the checkered flag. Although Marana missed the
first round of WORCS, he is still in eighth
place in the points chase and is gaining ground
with every race.
Mike Cafro was having a solid race as he was
in the top five going into the off road section
in lap one. Cafro would fall back to sixth,
where he would do battle with Dillon Zimmerman.
After going back and forth for several laps,
Cafro was pulling away and looked as if he would
be well on his way to a solid sixth place finish,
but Cafro would give up his position when he
stopped to help fellow racer Garrin Fuller,
who had wrecked and was pinned under his quad.
“I know Garrin really well and I couldn’t
just leave him there like that,” said
Cafro, who would go on to finish in a respectable
seventh place, which would also put him in seventh
in the pro points race.

Julie Russell took
her 4th straight win of the 2010 season
in the Women's class & also put
down the fastest laptime on the day
in her class , despite the bitter cold
& snow
|
In the Women’s A class, Julie Russell braved the snow and cold on Saturday
to take her class win. Russell would grab the
holeshot and check out on her competition, while
laying claim to the fastest lap time in her class
in lap three with a time of 09:24.214. Russell
would end her day taking her fourth straight win
of the season.
In the Pro-am ranks, David Haagsma meant business
as he charged off the line, taking the holeshot
and the Pro-am win. Haagsma ran a flawless race,
leading from start to finish and now has a very
comfortable points lead with 115 points. Keith
Johnson was also looking good as he was in a
solid second for the entire race. Johnson would
also pull the fastest lap time in the Pro-am
class with a time of 09:19.068 in the third
lap and go on to join his teammate on the podium
in second place. “David and Keith both
did a great job out there and it was great to
see both of them on the podium,” stated
team manager Mike Cafro.
With only two weeks separating rounds five
and six, the team is working hard to ready themselves
for the desert track of Cahuilla Hills in Anza,
CA on June 4th- 6th where Beau Baron is hoping
to take over the pro points lead.
