Mesquite, NV (10/29/2009) -Mike
Cafro Racing’s Beau Baron overcame by what
seemed to be insurmountable odds at the final
round of the 2009 WORCS series to take his, and
the team’s, first ever WORCS Pro ATV Championship.
“It was really an incredible day,”
said team manager Mike Cafro of the events that
transpired.
Baron’s strategy for the final round
was to ride smart and consistent in order to
finish in the top ten, which was what he needed
in order to take the championship, but that
strategy was blown out of the water when Baron
came down hard in the whoops in the third lap
and his bike cut out and would not restart.
“I thought it was all over,” said
Baron. “I was sitting there on the side
of the track and then Mike (Cafro) came around
and he towed me back to the pits so we could
fix the bike.”

Back in the pits Baron’s heart sank as
he saw that he was soon to be lapped, but the
team worked feverishly and were able to get
him back on the track. Baron was down a lap
and made an incredible charge back to eleventh
place.
“Beau needed to be in eleventh to take
the championship, but we wanted to make sure
that he was secure in his position so we pulled
Josh Row off in the last lap in order to put
Beau in tenth and give a little extra security,”
stated Cafro.

Beau Baron gave himself and his MCR Team
their first Pro ATV WORCS Championship |
Despite the setbacks the team faced, Baron
would end up finishing in tenth place and taking
his and the teams, first Pro ATV WORCS Championship.
“I’m really proud of the team and
I am very proud of Beau. He did a great job
out there and really gave it his all to make
it happen,” said Cafro.
“After everything that happened out there,
it was just a really incredible feeling to win
the championship. I have to thank Mike and the
whole team because they really came through
for me and I couldn’t have done it without
them,” stated Baron.
Although he was pulled off in the last lap,
Josh Row still put on an awesome effort this
year. His consistency and determination allowed
him to end his season in fifth place in the
series points. “Josh has done a great
job and is a real asset to the team,”
Cafro stated.

MCR's
Julie Russell finished 2nd in the Women's
A championship points |
Julie Russell also had an incredible season in
the Women’s A class finishing second in
the championship points chase. Russell worked
hard all year and it showed, as her lap times
became faster and faster at each race. Russell’s
potential for a championship next season appears
good as she has been extremely consistent and
her skills have steadily improved.
As for team manager Mike Cafro, he was able
to finish his season in the number twelve position
despite battling with a wrist injury for a good
part of the year, and sacrificing his own race
at the final round in order to ensure the championship
for Beau Baron.
Over the next few weeks the team will be enjoying
some well deserved R&R before they start
preparing for next season, as Baron will have
some fierce competition in defending his newly
won championship.
