Allstars' #75 Casey Martin sits second
in the AMA ATV MX Pro-Am Production Class
after round 9 |
Morehead, KY (8/6/2012) - The
2012 season has been a great season for some riders
and it’s been one to forget for others.
With 8 rounds of National ATV MX racing in the
books Team Media Allstars looked forward to putting
in some solid laps in Southern Michigan. The Red
Bud track and trail facility is considered by
many to be the best on the circuit and arguably
the best in the country. Racers flock to the Red
Bud event each year and this year was no different.
With the number of the series’ attendees
shrinking from round to round many wondered
if the nostalgia of a facility/track like Red
Bud would bring those numbers back up. The answer
to that question was YES! Qualifiers in almost
every class meant that the competition would
be intense at round 9. Many of the A classes
had close to 30 entries and even the Pro-Am
Unlimited class saw 31 riders attempt their
hand at taking one of the 20 spots available
on the gate.
Team Media Allstars’ farm system seems
to be working as of late. The team had 3 riders
attempt to tackle the Pro-Am Unlimited class
at Red Bud. Jake McGraw #83 had already run
several races in the Pro-Am Unlimited class
this season with mixed results. Brett Musick
#209 has been the most talked about racer on
the track this season and after clinching 2
B class titles after round 7 moved up to take
on the Pro-Am and A classes at Unadilla. Dan
Hoisington #71 is locked into 2nd place in the
College Boy 16-24 class and wanted to test his
speed in what may be his last race of the season.
Musick continued to show the ATV racing world
that he’s here to stay and not just a
flash in the pan.
The 2012 Production B and 450 B champion rocketed
out of the gate and into 3rd place. That didn’t
last long as he passed his way into the 2nd
spot on the first lap and finished his moto
in the runner up spot. McGraw pulled the trigger
on his MotoXperts Suzuki and rocketed out of
the gate in his qualifier moto and almost pulled
the holeshot!
The #83 machine rode solid and ended up earning
a nice 5th place for the moto. Hoisington was
a little less fortunate as his bike left him
stranded in the Red Bud sand on lap 3 while
in a qualifying position. Dan shook it off though
as he fought his way into the main event by
taking 3rd place in the LSQ. The 2nd moto of
Pro-Am Unlimited was not as nice to the Allstars.
McGraw found himself on the worst end of 2 of
the 3 crashes that occurred in the first 3 turns
of the main; Musick was on fire passing his
way up and was actually sitting in a podium
position when he crashed trying to pass for
3rd place.
Hoisington was running in the top 10 before
his machine once again left him stranded, causing
him to DNF the moto. Still it was a great performance
from all 3 Media Allstar riders in one of the
fastest classes in the country!
A rider that seldom sneaks up on people is
Dylan Tremellen #940 but it seems that in 2012
he’s done just that. Dylan wrapped up
the 16-24 class championship at Red Bud by edging
out his teammate (Hoisington) with a win and
1-1 moto score and now has 4 National Championships
to his credit. Dylan is also currently in 3rd
place in the 4-stroke A class and could possibly
earn another top 3 overall in the 450A class
this season. But it’s been his consistency,
not his dominance that has earned him those
A class points. We should get to see what Dylan
is made of in a week or so as he’ll be
entering his first career Pro-Am race!
Other Media Allstar riders with note worthy
results from Red Bud include:
Media Allstar Alumni Team sponsored rider
Casey “Big Money” Martin was also
on the gas in the Pro-Am Production class. Casey
flew out of the gate and grabbed the early moto
1 holeshot. The $75 machine led the first few
laps before being over taken by series points
leader Cody Gibson, Casey stayed right on Gibson’s
bumper though and passed him back. Gibson would
eventually win the moto but it was a great battle
to witness and the fans in attendance got their
money’s worth! Moto 2 didn’t go
as Martin would have hoped as a broken brake
caliper bracket caused him to loose his entire
rear braking system. Casey still managed to
ride his limping machine to a podium finish
with a 2nd overall.
“Big Money” has had a great season
and in his own words he’s had “fun”
this year. As this report is being typed we
have to regret to inform everyone that Casey
suffered a broken leg while training to attempt
the pro class at Loretta’s. The injury
is pretty severe and our entire Media Allstar
family asks that you keep the Martin’s
in your thoughts and prayers. We have no doubt
he’ll make a full recovery in time as
he’s got the heart of a lion or a cougar
as his graphics earlier this season would indicate!
The great ATV Motocross vacation is our next
stop on the 2012 ATVA MX Championship tour.
Loretta Lynn’s is a racing tradition and
with 3 National Championships already locked
up we look forward to ending the season on a
roll. See you on the podium!
