Cumming, GA (5/19/2010) - Oh
the weekend that might have been. There is an
old saying “if it weren’t for bad
luck, you wouldn’t have any”. Sometimes
in racing it feels like you just can’t
buy a break. It’s just part of the sport,
it seems that some guys get lucky every weekend
and others are like the guy that keeps throwing
quarters into the pull tab machine at the local
BP.
Sunset Ridge was one of those weekends when
our entire team felt like that guy playing pull
tabs. Even with all the misfortune there was
no quit, there were no excuses. But you can’t
help but wonder what might have been…

#5
Josh West |
Our MVP award for the weekend has to go to Josh West #5. Josh has finally got
all the bugs worked out of his KFX450R and it
showed. A 3-5 in Production B earned the Roopville,
GA rider a 5th overall in what could have been
the closest racing of the weekend. In the 450B
class Josh continued to perform like a true
MVP (no Lebron James performance here) and scored
a 2-2 for 2nd overall.
Josh was oh so close to his first B class overall
as he led several laps in the 450B class, I
don’t think it’ll be long before
he’s standing on top of the podium.

#83
Jake McGraw |
Jake McGraw #83 had the transmission on his
LTR450 let go in Friday’s practice, so
he decided to ride his (mostly) stock practice
bike for points. I guess scoring a moto 1 win
in the 4-stroke B class and a 3rd overall earned
him some points! Jake also rode his tail of
in the Production B class going 6-8 for 8th
overall.
Calen McGinty #33’s luck couldn’t
get much worse coming into round 4. Things didn’t
get much better in Walnut, IL. Calen got into
a first turn crash in Production B and scored
a 5-DNF in Open B for 19th. We look forward
to seeing what the #33 Suzuki pilot is capable
of with some luck on his side for once.

#8
Devin Stenftenagle |
Devin Stenftenagle #8 found himself the victim of an over achiever who decided
to run into him in the 2nd turn, leaving both
riders tangled up for much of the moto as track
workers tried to separate the two machines.
Devin managed to redeem himself in moto 2 charging
through the pack to claim a 17-5 score for 10th
overall. The #8 Yamaha rocket off the line in
Open C and quickly claimed a 13 second lead
over the rest of the pack in moto 1. But once
again our weekend theme took hold and Devin
scored a 1-13 for 5th overall.
Speaking of unfortunate moto 2 finishes taking
away chances at an overall, Ryan Wheeler #52
was on his way to his first career overall when
mechanical gremlins snatched it away. Ryan was
leading Sunday’s 450C main event when
his misfortune hit. He still managed a 2-10
for 6th overall. Ryan also proved he has the
speed to come through the pack as he stalled
his bike on the gate in the 4-stroke C main
and passed 13 riders to finish with a 5-7 score
for 5th overall!
Mark Batson #636 stepped up to the competition
at round 4. For the first time this season there
were qualifiers in the 30+ A/B class. And Mark’s
5-9 moto finishes and 8th overall prove that
he’s got what it takes to run with the
fastest Vets in the country week in and week
out. Ronnie Higgerson #665 found himself a victim
of bad luck as well. After a career high moment
in Danville, VA two weeks ago Ronnie just couldn’t
catch a break in his home state of Illinois.
He scored a 13-15 for 14th overall in the always
tough Pro-am Production class, but this fast
and competitive rider will be back up front
rest assured.
Team “Captain” Chase Cunningham
#419 has had his share of bad luck over the
years, and since that is the team theme for
the weekend why change? Chase managed to charge
through the pack in all 3 of his classes on
Saturday but on the last lap of Open A’s
moto 1 his LTR450 transmission also decided
it had had enough, leaving the #419 machine
sidelined for the remainder of the weekend.
Oh the weekend that might have been. As they
say….better luck next time!
