Lonestar Racing's Greg Frantz Ends the 2010 LOORS Racing Season with 2nd Place Podium Finish

Mesa, AZ (12/22/2010) - Round 15 was the last official points round for the 2010 season. The Championship for the SR1 class was pretty much already decided going into the last round. But with a brand new track just 15 minutes from home, drivers and fans alike were looking forward to some awesome racing action. The SR1 class delivered, with the stands getting more and more crowded as each weekend went by. With so many cars capable of winning, that brings the excitement up a notch, because nobody knows who will be on top.

The new track at Firebird Raceway in Chandler AZ proved to be a tough one for the cars, but amazing for the fans. From every seat in the grandstands, fans could see the entire 8/10ths of a mile. The track was complete with huge bermed corners, large fly away jumps, a 100ft step up, and a two lane rhythm section. The dirt was ideal for lots of traction, and the water trucks were easy on us with the proper amount of water. Normally they completely soak the track turning the 1st half of our race into a slippery mess.

Lonestar Racing Team Memember Greg Frantz's spirits were high even though he knew he had some battles to overcome before he had any chance of seeing the podium. Battling a cold for the week prior, and having to re-dial in the newly changed rear shocks were some of the obstacles the team faced for the weekend. After just a few short laps of practice, it was obvious the changed shocks were far from being dialed in. After some significant adjustments were made, the car headed
back out on the track for qualifying Friday afternoon. Turning in some mediocre lap times for qualifying, there was still some further adjustment needed, especially when coming up short on the big step up.

We spent Friday evening going over the car, and getting the shocks changed in order to make sure we didn't have any issues for the last points race of the season on Saturday. Starting near the back of the pack, Greg had his work cut out for him. His goal was to make as much forward progress as possible in order to fight for a top spot towards the end of the race. In the first six laps, he was making great headway getting up to 4th or 5th position, when suddenly his rear passenger wheel passed him just out of turn #1. The 6 bolts that hold the wheel hub in place had sheared off causing the wheel to keep on flying down the track, as the car drug to a stop. It was a frustrating moment, knowing we were making good headway towards the front of the pack. It's been a tough year, and this was just one more race to put down in the books.

Sunday was a new day. We were able to borrow some parts from Tyler Herzog, so we could repair the car, and get it ready for battle for the last race of the season. The Challenge Cup is held on the last day of the series. It's a no hold's barred, all out battle for top prize money and awards. The Pro truck classes are combined to form 30 trucks all going at the top spot. Our UTV class was combined with the Unlimited Pro UTV's just as it always is, but LOORRS officials decided to keep the classes separate in finishing order since the SR1 seemed to have an advantage on this track.

Greg was lined up at the front of the pack for the Challenge Cup. He was able to keep the car out front during the 1st couple of laps, until he came up short on the step up causing the car to loose control, and veer off the track. He kept the throttle pinned, and was able to get back on the track only loosing a couple positions.

Right behind him was Corry Weller, LSR's other sponsored driver that earned herself 2nd in the championship points. Greg knew he had to really work to keep her behind him. She squeezed by after taking a better line in turn 2, but Greg was able to pass her back on the next lap through the 2 lane rhythm section. Ryan Beat was running away up front, but Greg was able to keep it in 2nd place for the duration of the race!

Finally back up on the podium for the last race of the year was a great feeling! It made up for all the hard work the team has done throughout the season. They put in a serious effort to try and be the best, even though they were continually faced with major challenges. But they just wouldn't give up!

A huge thanks goes to Greg Frantz for all his efforts to design and build the car, and attempt to control it on the track. Ryan Bartholomew for constantly wrenching and fixing, staying up late, and waking up early to make sure the car was 100%, Brian Bush for helping wrench, providing track side transportation, and an extra hand when needed. Dan Fisher, and Lone Star Racing for helping this dream turn into a reality by providing all of the equipment, man hours, and finances to produce a winning machine and team.

We would also like to thank all of our parts sponsors for making this season a reality for us. We couldn't have done it with without the amazing products and support from these companies!
