FRE / KTM's Loretta Lynn's GNCC ATV Race Report
Loretta Lynn's GNCC - Round 5- Hurricane Mills, TN - April 24, 2010

Hurricane Mills, TN (4/26/2010) - Strong rains and tornado warnings led to a muddy, messy race track for the fifth round of the ATV GNCC Series held at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. The FRE/KTM Team of Angel Atwell, Bryan Cook and Josh Kirkland were ready to tackle the challenge.

FRE/KTM rider Angel Atwell got to test the track first in the morning Women’s race. She grabbed the holeshot and led the majority of the first lap. Traci Cecco made a pass on Atwell on the motocross portion of the track at the end of the first lap but Atwell was able to pass her back at the end of the next lap. The third lap consisted of a few more lead changes with Atwell again taking the lead at the start of the final lap. With one mile to go Atwell had a three second lead on Cecco. On the final uphill Atwell got stuck behind a lapped rider and was forced to put her quad in reverse and find another line losing precious seconds. The two female riders came onto the motocross track wheel-to-wheel. Cecco was able to make a corner block pass and hold on for the lead. Angel finished right behind in 2nd place.

In the afternoon race, XC1 rider Bryan Cook got a great start and went into the first corner in 3rd place. He tangled with two other riders before the woods which put him near the rear of the pack. Shortly afterward, Cook suffered a clutch problem which forced him to return to the pits for a repair. He returned to the race a lap down and salvaged a few points to finish 14th overall.

Josh Kirkland pulls the holeshot on his FRE/KTM but eventually dropped back to 5th because of mechanical issues

The XC2 race went better for the third member of the FRE/KTM team as Josh Kirkland got his KTM off to a great start, nailing the holeshot. Kirkland led most of the first lap before Kevin Yoho took over the lead. The mud caused a few mechanical problems that Kirkland was able to ride through but lost a few positions. He stayed as smooth as he could to finish the race and crossed the line in 5th position.
