Paul Winrow put
on a very impressive performance at
Llangrish and secured third place on
the podium with his Team KTM UK 505SX
ATV and moved into 7th place in the
points chase

United Kingdom (5/10/2010) -
Birmingham’s Paul Winrow
added to the silverware for Team KTM UK with a
fantastic 3rd place overall at the second round
of the 2010 GOLDSPEED EMX Quad European Championship
recently, team-mates Jason Macbeth and James Hellewell
also putting in superb displays of riding to finish
6th and 11th respectively after two hectic days
of racing.
With thousands of spectators crowding the banks
of the hillside Langrish circuit to cheer on
their local riders, the venue on the outskirts
of Petersfield provided the perfect setting
for some epic battles and entertainment as the
best riders in Europe competed in three twenty-five
minute plus two-lap motos.
Quickly getting the Team KTM UK 505 SX ATVs
dialled in to the challenges of the spectacular
Manor Farm track in practice, Saturday’s
timed qualification saw Macbeth and Winrow qualify
3rd and 4th in their group with less than a
second splitting the top four riders, with Hellewell
taking an excellent 7th to also secure a front
row start for Sunday’s race action.
Macbeth and Hellewell gating midpack and breaking
the timing beam for the first time in 12th and
13th. With the soily surface heavily watered
beforehand and making conditions a little tricky
in the early stages, Winrow continued to blaze
a trail out front while Macbeth and Hellewell
worked their way through the pack, Macbeth moving
inside the top ten within a lap with Hellewell
up to 11th. Fifteen minutes in to the race and
a slight error had Hellewell circulating in
17th but fighting his way back up the standings
while Macbeth continued to blitz his way through
the pack to 5th, Winrow maintaining his lead
until a mistake on the penultimate lap cost
him a position.

Paul Winrow
ripped the holeshot in Moto One and
landed in 2nd place after the dust had
settled, teammates Macbeth and Hellewell
placed 6th and 15th respectively
|
A dream start to the opening race saw Winrow take
the holeshot and lead the field out on the first
of thirteen laps taking the chequered flag in
2nd with Macbeth coming home a superb 6th and
Hellewell battling back to 15th.
A fantastic start to race two saw all three
riders gate inside the top ten, Macbeth leading
the charge in 7th with team-mate Winrow in tow
and Hellewell slotting in to 10th. Circulating
at a frantic pace around the fast and furious
circuit, Macbeth maintained his charge towards
the front and at half distance had moved up
to 4th, Winrow two slots back with Hellewell
involved in a three way battle for 9th, and
as the chequered flag came out after thirty
fast and furious minutes Winrow had moved up
to 4th with Macbeth crossing the line in 6th,
Hellewell fighting to the chequered flag for
a well deserved 11th.

James Hellewell
had three tough goings in his motos
on race day at Llangrish, always nipping
at the top ten but never being able
to break through, the teenager put on
a great performance despite some early-race
mishaps
|
The start of the final outing of the day did
not go as well as the previous encounter, Winrow
gating 6th with Macbeth running midpack, but
for Hellewell it had been a disastrous start
after stalling on the line and getting away
dead last. Quickly finding their rhythm and
with the tracks coming to them, all three riders
battled hard for position, Winrow suffering
from arm-pump from an early stage in the race
but settling for 8th and a superb 3rd step on
the podium, with Macbeth charging to the chequered
flag having moved up five spots to 9th and 6th
overall on the day on the countback rule, while
Hellewell had put in a gargantuan effort to
blast through to 12th, the teenager’s
performance was outstanding having made up eighteen
positions in just nine laps!
 |
Jason Macbeth landed
in the 6th position in the first two
motos and finally slid into 9th place
behind Paul Winrow in Moto three, he
currently rounds out the top 5 in points
after round 2 of the series
|
Speaking after the meeting, team manager Richard
Cole commented “ today has been a fantastic
day for the Team, and I am really proud of Paul,
Jason and James and the performance that they
have put in, all three are outstanding riders.
It’s always nice to get a podium result,
but to do it at the first ever European Quad Championship
race in front of your home crowd is even more
special. Paul has shown that he hasn’t lost
any of the hunger and drive that have taken him
to a record ten British Championships and was
unlucky not to win the first heat.
With his podium at the opening round, Jason
has shown that he is quickly adapting to the
bike and I have no doubt throughout the year
will get on the rostrum again. As for James,
he just keeps amazing me with the maturity that
he has for someone so young, his last race today
was unbelievable and a joy to watch, and I feel
confident that with a little work on his starts
he can get finish well inside the top ten. It’s
been a brilliant weekend and we now look forward
to the opening two rounds of the 2010 GOLDSPEED
ACU British Quad Championships in May.”
