KTM's Mark Watson Moves To 2nd With Dean Moor Dominance
2010 Goldspeed ACU BQC Championship Series - Round 3 - August 1, 2010

Mark Watson - KTM 505SX ATV Team KTM UK - Dean Moor
United Kingdom (8/3/2010) - D3 DWT Motoworks KTM rider Mark Watson delivered yet another outstanding performance to take the overall win at round three of the 2010 GOLDSPEED ACU British Quad Championship, his superb 1-1-2 scorecard giving him the top step and promotion to 2nd place in the series standings.

Hosted by the NETT Iveston & Satley MCC at the picture perfect Dean Moor Motocross Park on the outskirts of the Lake District, Watson’s epic performance in front of his native Cumbrian supporters was greeted with huge cheers as he made it back to back years as a winner at the spectacular venue.

Despite a deluge of rain during the week and on the day prior to the event, conditions on race day improved as the action progressed, the soil circuit initially slightly muddy but drying out quickly as the racing got underway, but it was immediately evident in free practice that Watson was unfazed by the conditions, posting a lap-time over eight seconds faster than anyone else.

A fantastic start to the first of the three twenty minute plus two-lap motos saw Watson slot in to 2nd around the first corner and take the lead halfway around the opening lap, setting fastest lap of the race to gradually extend his lead and take the win by three seconds. The second heat was a clear example of using the route one theory, Watson leading around the first corner and leaving the chasing pack in his roost as he pushed to a comfortable gate to flag victory by seven seconds, Watson’s final moto performance a true Championship winning ride as he fought through to 2nd in the early stages before settling for the running up spot and the overall win, moving to 2nd in the series and reducing the deficit to just twelve points.

Speaking after the event, Watson commented “it has been a fantastic day and I’m delighted with my results. This is a fantastic circuit and as usual the club and track-owners have done a fantastic job preparing the track in very difficult conditions. It was a little sticky in places during practice and in the first heat, but the circuit quickly dried out and was a lot of fun to ride. The D3 DWT Motoworks KTM is working really well and pulled really strongly of the gate giving me good starts, and although it would have been nice to take a clean sweep in front of my “home” crowd I was more than happy with 2nd in the final heat and taking the overall. Championships are more a marathon than a sprint, and with four rounds to go and lots of points up for grabs I’ll be focusing on the double-header at Leuchars in two weeks time, where I’ll be aiming to close the gap to the number one spot”.
