United Kingdom
(5/11/2010) - Team
KTM UK lead the 2010 GOLDSPEED ACU British Quad
Championship after the series got underway with
a double header at Desertmartin at the weekend,
Quad Racing Ireland playing host to rounds one
and two of the seven round series at the superb
Grand Prix Motocross Circuit at Porters Pit.
In a fantastic Team effort over the weekend,
team-mates Paul Winrow, Jason Macbeth and James
Hellewell put in outstanding performances around
the demanding sand-based venue that kept the
paying public well entertained, all three riders
making multiple podium appearances over the
two days to get their season off to a flyer.

Paul Winrow put
on a very impressive performance at
Desertmartin & secured 2nd place
on Saturday, but Sunday was even better,
which saw Winrow take the overall win
& the points lead
|
For Winrow it was a fantastic start to his Championship
campaign, with a performance that shows that he
is adapting very quickly to the Team KTM UK 505
SX, taking a 2-2-2 scorecard on Saturday for 2nd
overall on the day but saving the best to Sunday,
Winrow using his vast experience around the full
Grand Prix layout to take the overall win on the
day and the lead in the series, his final race
win an epic battle which had the crowds enthralled
as he raced to victory to maintain a one hundred
percent record of podium finishes over the two
days.
Commenting after his astounding result, Winrow
said “it has been a great weekend and
a fantastic result for myself and Team KTM UK.
The track here does get a lot rougher as the
day goes on, but we found a really good set
up on the bike and with the full Grand Prix
layout being used on the Sunday I was able to
put the handling of the bike to good use through
the back section and had a lot of fun battling
for the wins. I’m still adapting to the
bike and know that there is still more to come,
so the result is a great boost and just what
we needed. I’d just like to say thanks
to the team at Team KTM UK, all our sponsors
and my friends and family for all their help
and support, and I’d especially like to
dedicate my overall win on Sunday to my Dad,
this one was for him.”

Jason Macbeth also
put on a very good showing & landed
in 2nd overall on the day with a 2-5-3
finish & moved into 5th in the points
standings
|
Having narrowly missed out on the runner up
position in the 2009 series, Reading’s
Jason Macbeth has also shown that his transition
to KTM machinery has been a smooth one, Macbeth
taking an outstanding 2-5-3 result on Sunday
for 2nd overall to make it a Team KTM UK 1-2
on the day, Macbeth quickly putting the disappointment
of a broken nerf bar while comfortably in 2nd
place in the opening heat of the weekend aside
to move up to 5th in the standings with just
four points the gap to 3rd. “I’m
really happy with my performance and result
today” commented Macbeth on Sunday, “but
I’m obviously gutted at what happened
in the first race on Saturday as I was sitting
comfortably in 2nd and under no pressure. I
really like this circuit, it’s very technical
and tends to get roughed up a lot during the
day, but the Team KTM 505 SX is handling perfectly
and I’m really enjoying riding the bike.
I can see that the results are coming and I
know that there are areas that we can still
improve on, so it’s been a really good
weekend and I’m looking forward to Italy
next weekend and round three of the European
Championship.”

The teenager James
Hellewell took 12th overall despite
problems during Sunday's motos &
is currently tied for 11th in points
|
As the youngest member of the team and still only
eighteen, James Hellewell got his 2010 British
season of to a flying start despite a few problems
on Sunday to round out the weekend 12th overall
in the series, tied on points for 11th. Battling
through from mid pack starts on Saturday, Hellewell
fought hard to take an ever improving 12-11-10
score and 11th overall on the day, with a superb
14th overall on Sunday despite a broken nerf bar
in heat one and a steering problem in the final
moto preventing better finishes, Hellewell’s
determination also taking him to four 2nd place
race podiums and a 2-3 overall podium result over
the weekend in the Under 21 British Championship,
the class run within the main series but scored
separately.
“It’s been a really good weekend”
said Hellewell, “the track is really tough
and demands a lot of respect, but the Team KTM
UK 505 SX handled perfectly and I had a lot
of fun. On Saturday I didn’t get the best
pick of gate or start but was able to work my
way towards the top ten which was awesome, and
on Sunday things didn’t go quite according
to plan as the nerf broke on the opening lap
of heat one, and we had a steering problem in
the last race that meant I had to ease my pace
while running 9th, but that’s racing and
I was still able to score decent points with
a 10th in heat two and am really happy with
where I am placed in both the main and Under
21 series.”
