Parker, AZ (5/24/2010) - The KendallRacing.com
ATV team spent last weekend competing in two
big off road events spread across the state
of Arizona. On Saturday the team competed with
the Big Bang Entertainment #411 team in the
Open Expert class at the BITD Blue Water GP
aboard the Kendall Racing, DFR, Motowoz, LSR,
Honda. Then they headed to the Northern tip
of the state to compete in a desert race with
Whiplash Racing in Page, AZ. The team of Trent
Kendall and Adam Barnes spent the prior week
prepping the machine so that it would endure
back to back endurance races. Heading into the
Blue Water GP the team was 2nd in the points
and eager to make up ground on the class leading
449 team of Josh Rowley.
With the temperature approaching 100 degrees
Ian Marvich from Dirt Fiend Racing started the
race. Marvich navigated the sand dunes, silt
beds, water crossing and the famous abandoned
house that everyone races through without incident.
After Lap one Trent Kendall jumped on the quad
in 4th place. Marvich and Kendall passed the
quad back and forth for the next few laps battling
up to 3rd place and hot on the heels of the
2nd place 416 quad. On lap 5 Ken George boarded
the Honda, eventually getting lapped by the
Pro team of Josh Frederick and Dillon Zimmerman.
George finished strong bringing the quad to
the finish line in 4th place out of 7 teams.
The 449 team had troubles which allowed the
Kendall Racing team to gain valuable points
in the season championship.
Following the Blue Water race Kendall and team
pit boss Adam Barnes loaded up and headed 400
miles northeast to Page Arizona. The city of
Page is featured in many extreme sports videos
like Nitro Circus thanks to the beautiful scenery
of Lake Powell and its surrounding Canyons that
resemble Monument Valley. The Whiplash Desert
Racing Page race course is well known for miles
of challenging sand whoops and exposed raw rock
formations. The City of Page welcomes all off
roaders to their beautiful town each year and
the pit area for the races allows riders to
ride their vehicles from the host hotel, to
the nearby gas station, jack in the box and
carwash without any hassles. This year the organizers
mapped out a 22 mile course and the race called
for 5 laps.
Kendall and Barnes stayed up late prepping
the quad on Saturday night preparing it for
the higher elevation and changing the quad over
to the desert configuration. Kendall started
the race on the 2nd row of the Senior Pro Class
with racers starting 2 at a time, 30 seconds
apart. Kendall took the holes hot and started
his battle with the notorious sand whoops. The
first 8 miles of the course are used by many
racing organizations from Arizona and Utah so
the terrain is extremely whooped out and challenging.
After 10 miles Kendall had been passed by two
other competitors putting him in 3rd place.
The 110-mile endurance test had just started
so nobody was worried, this race would be won
with consistency. The next 10 miles of the course
were all new featuring 5 high speed road crossings
and many wash beds that are extremely fun.
Kendall is running the #1 plate for Whiplash
this year due to having the highest number of
pro points at the end of the 2009 season. The
#2 plate of Nick Steinman was just ahead of
Kendall following the 1st lap. Steinman and
Kendall continued to battle for 1st place through
laps 2, 3 and 4, passing each other through
the pits every lap. The RSD team was helping
the Kendall Racing team with the pitting duties
and quick pit stops on laps 2 and 3 allowed
Kendall to get by Steinman in the pit area.
Kendall made it around Steinman in the new
section of the course on lap 4 and tried to
make it stick by staying on the throttle all
the way into the pits. The white flag was out
and Kendall needed to finish at least 2 minutes
ahead of Steinman due to the staggered start
and Steinman starting on the last row of Pros.
On lap 5 everyone was spent, the course was
littered with “bobble heading” riders.
Kendall tried to lay down the same pace that
was set in earlier laps and he ended up crossing
the finish line 6 minutes ahead of quad #2 and
5 minutes behind the overall Open Pro winner
of Mike “Jay” Sloan. Kendall was
the only rider to complete a sub 41 minute final
lap so the consistency paid off. In the RSD
pits Kendall said that it was the hardest race
he had ever raced in, including Baja and the
notorious Cinder Mountain races of Flagstaff,
Arizona. The overall finishing time for Kendall
Racing was 3 hours, 15 minutes and 22 seconds.
The DFR, Lone Star Racing ATV ran flawlessly
with the only casualty being a cracked nerfbar
and a broken pivot bolt. The Motowoz shocks
performed great, never fading throughout the
3 hour battle with the whoops.
Kendall Racing currently sits in 2nd in the
BITD expert points and has finished 2, 2, and
1 in the Whiplash Desert races this year.
