KAWASAKI SPONSORS PROGRESSIVE
AGRICULTURE
SAFETY DAY™
CAMP PROGRAM
ATV Safety Awareness Focus of KMC Involvement
Irvine, CA (6/16/06) - Kawasaki Motors
Corp., U.S.A. (KMC) announced continuation of its sponsorship
of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day™ camp
program. The powersports marketer specifically underwrites
a hands-on effort targeted at safety awareness of all
terrain vehicles (ATV) usage in a farm environment.
The Progressive Agriculture Safety Day camp program
has been helping to educate children, parents, and volunteers
about various elements of farm safety. As the only North
American program of its kind, Progressive Agriculture
Safety Day camps have been held in 756 communities,
42 states and four Canadian provinces. The program has
positively influenced the lives of more than 500,000
children and adults living in agricultural communities.
During the ATV component of the day-long comprehensive
program, the Safety Day instructor gathers the youths
around an ATV and discusses riding techniques and safety
rules that are particularly applicable in the farm environment.
The instructor covers the recommended wearing apparel
such as helmets, goggles, gloves, long pants and boots,
and there is a discussion regarding selection of the
appropriate sized ATV based on the operator’s
age.
“We are pleased that we have been able to increase
the number of camps in the past ten years, from 19 camps
in 1995 to 356 camps in 2006, reaching over 53,000 rural
children and 18,000 adults,” said Susan Reynolds,
Executive Director – Programs. “The camps
not only affect the lives of the participants, coordinators,
and volunteers, but they also touch the lives of their
families, friends and communities.”
"The Agriculture Safety Day Camp program is ideally
suited to help spread the message about ATV safety,"
said Roger Hagie, director of public affairs for KMC.
"The program has a positive record of informing
parents and children about the safe and appropriate
use of ATV vehicles. We are proud to support the Progressive
Agriculture Safety Day program.”
The instruction offered in the Safety Day Camp regarding
the important choice of appropriate sized ATV for youthful
operators between the ages of 6 and 16 is identical
to the age recommendations made to all Kawasaki ATV
buyers. Information about the age recommendations, safety
apparel and protective clothing, and additional ATV
training courses is available by calling the ATV Safety
Institute at 1-800-887-2887.
