Justwin Racing's Justin Reid British QuadCross Langrish Race Report
ACU British Quad-X Championship - Round 5 - England - August 26, 2012

Justinwin Racing's Justin Reid

Justwin Racing's Justin Reid placed third Overall at Langrish MRC

England (9/1/2012) - Justin Reid and the Justwin Racing crew made the long trip from home in Northern Ireland to almost the south coast of England to take part in round five of the 2012 British Quadcross Championship at the pretty but testing hillside circuit at Langrish, in Hampshire.

The track is steeped in racing history going back to the first running of the “Ken Hall Trophy” in 1966 but the challenge is unchanged with its very long uphill section and some massive downhill jumps it still takes a lot of skill and guts to tame the beast.

Securing a decent choice of start gate, despite a problematic qualifying where Justin was having trouble finding the right setup for the big jumps, he finished the session with 5th fastest time in a group of four riders, separated by only hundredths of a second.

In race one Leon Rodgers rounded turn one in the lead with Justin in sixth but within touch of the leaders as they set off in the twenty five minute plus two lap race.

By the halfway stage, Justin had passed George Callaway and Sam Bryan, but was taking Conner Smith with him and was now in fourth place.
With three laps to go Justin had let Smith through and was fending off Luke Cooper for fourth and despite the pair swopping positions several times Justin ended the race in fourth and notched up some valuable championship points.

In race two Holmes got the holeshot with Justin, after making some handling adjustment to the Justwin Racing machine, in sixth, but by passing both Callaway and Bryan on the opening lap he was on David Cowan’s case pushing for third.

With the slick track conditions it was always going to be hard passing and it took the next six laps of extreme effort for Justin to effect a pass on Cowan and set off after Cooper and with half the race time gone it was going to be a tall order.

It’s one thing to catch a fellow racer, but it’s another to find away past, and that’s what happened to the hard charging Justin as all of a sudden Cooper’s KTM seemed to be ten feet wide and although Justin was clearly faster he just couldn’t find a way past.

With Holmes and Cooper taking to top two places on the winner’s rostrum, Justin had to settle for third overall, but more important he scored some more valuable championship points to take onto the next round.

“It’s a little frustrating because I know I should have had 2nd in that second moto and 2nd overall. I reeled Cooper in pretty easily once I found my rhythm but I just couldn’t find a way around him. He was pulling away a little on the long climbs and my corner speed suffered as I’d compromised my set up to deal with the big downhill jumps. All in all it was a fun days racing and I should now be in 2nd in the Championship when the corrected points come into effect.”
