Justin Waters Scores Another Top Ten at Straddleline WORCS

McCleary, WA (7/28/2010) - Straddleline Raceway in McCleary, Washington played host to Round 7 of the World Offroad Racing Championship (WORCS) ATV Nationals July 23-25. HotSeat Powersports/Yamaha rider #95 Justin Waters made another strong showing and finished in 10th place in the Pro main event.

The weekend started out with Friday night's WORCS-X event, where riders had to tackle logs and other extreme man-made obstacles. This event is run on the motocross track in front of the grandstands and is truly a made-for-spectators event. Waters commented, “last year was sketchy, but this year they toned it down quite a bit.” He ran well in his heat, qualifying directly into the Main event. After a shaky start he battled back, but got hung on a log one time, ending up 8th place in the Pro division. A good warm-up for the weekend, and a lot of technical fun.

Sunday's main event had 20 Pros on the line, including four factory riders from the GNCC series, for the only real “woods” round WORCS runs each season. Waters had a great strong start, one of his best this season, coming from the second row on the line, to 6th or 7th in the first corner. However, he got hit and knocked off-track in the second corner, and left the in-field in dead last headed for the woods. For the next two hours he just rode smart, picking off riders whenever he could, getting around them when they'd be hung up on trees or broken.

“One of my sponsors, MotoX Nutrition, came out this round so it was great to have their support in person. They have a couple new products, including Endurogen powder. The max recovery and max energy of that product especially was important to helping control arm pump, in a race where there is so much muscling the bars between tight trees.”

  • Top Ten finishers of the Pro class were:
    • 1st – Beau Baron, Atascadero CA
    • 2nd – Chris Borich, Sunbury PA
    • 3rd – Josh Frederick, Moapa NV
    • 4th – Adam McGill, West Union WV
    • 5th – Dustin Nelson, Ramona CA
    • 6th – Josh Row, El Cajon CA
    • 7th – Johnny Gallagher, Chagrin Falls OH
    • 8th – Roberto Villalobos, Dulzua CA
    • 9th – Timmy Shelman, Bonney Lake WA
    • 10th – Justin Waters, Las Vegas NV

The next round of WORCS racing at Glen Helen in September will be rough, hot, and physically demanding. Justin says he's preparing with “lots of training in the heat of Vegas. I'm in a good spot in points now [8th place], just need to ride consistently and finish solid for the last two rounds.”
