Justwin Racing's Justin Reid placed second in Moto 2 to take seventh overall

Northern Ireland (8/10/2011) - This past weekend saw Comber rider Justin Reid return to domestic Championship duties, the Justwin Racing crew travelling to County Armagh to make a welcome return to the fantastic Tandragee Motocross Circuit, North Armagh MC & CC hosting round six of the 2011 Ulster Premier Quad Championship at John Sinton’s excellent venue near Laurelvale on Saturday the 30th of July.

Despite a hectic race schedule that has seen Reid compete in his third Championship event in just seven days, Reid once again put in an awe inspiring performance to take a final heat 2nd position for 7th overall on the day despite a dramatic finish to the opening moto, moving up in the overall Championship standings with two rounds still remaining.

Clear skies and an excellently prepared hardpack circuit were the order of the day as the timed practice and qualifying session got underway for pick of gate, Reid’s session limited drastically by a broken terminal on the battery in the early stages, but posting 10th fastest nonetheless for a decent front row start.

Gating 6th around the tight first corner as the field charged out for the first of the two twenty-minute plus one-lap heats, Reid quickly found his rhythm around the fast and flowing 0.9 mile circuit and began to make his way towards the front, slotting in to 5th on completion of the first lap. Posting 2nd fastest race time of the day as he closed in on the rider in front, Reid moved up to 4th with a third of the ten laps gone and set about closing the six second gap that had opened up to 3rd. Maintaining his blistering pace as he reduced the deficit by two seconds per lap, Reid moved up to 3rd on lap seven and immediately began to pull away as he hunted down 2nd, but a sudden loss of all power on the take-off face of a table top left him no option but to jump from his wayward bike, Reid quickly remounting but unable to get underway and forced to take no further part in the race.

Showing his true professionalism to put the earlier disappointment behind him, and with the fault traced to a broken electrical wire and repaired in the interval, Reid once again took to the line for the final heat of the day, getting a slightly better start on the run to the first corner and heading out on the first lap in 5th. Charging from the outset as he focused on getting to the front, Reid took two spots on the opening lap as he fought his way through the pack before moving up to 2nd with three of the ten laps run. Circulating at almost one and a half seconds per lap faster than the ensuing pack, Reid comfortably pulled away as the race progressed and was reducing the deficit to the leader before time ran out, Reid taking a superb 2nd at the flag after twenty-three fast and furious minutes to round out the day 7th.

After a bittersweet result at the spectacular Tandragee circuit, Reid commented, “I’m a lucky lucky boy today as that was as big a get off as I’ve had in a long time – I can’t believe I got away with nothing more than a slightly sore chest, I think my neck brace really did it’s job. It turned out that a spot weld holding the solenoid onto the battery box broke and allowed it to flap around which broke the main power supply wire. Unfortunately it just happened in a really bad place!
The result was ok in the second moto though I’m a little disappointed as my confidence took a knock and I couldn’t really commit to push my hardest. Good to get decent points though and brilliant to be back at this fantastic venue.”
