Justwin
Racing's Justin Reid placed sixth
overall aboard his Can-Am DS 450 ATV
|
Whitehaven, Cumbria (7/25/2011)
- This
past weekend saw Justin Reid and the Justwin
Racing Team with a full race programme, the
Comber rider competing in two separate race
meetings in as many days on both sides of the
Irish Sea.
Kicking off the weekend’s proceedings
at Donemana on Saturday the 23rd of July,
the 5th round of the 2011 Ulster Premier Quad
Championship at the sand based circuit was
one to challenge his resolve with both heats
thwarted by mechanical gremlins, Reid showing
his true professionalism by quickly putting
the disappointment behind him in preparation
for the following day’s action.
Making the trip across the Irish Sea for
round four of the 2011 GOLDSPEED ACU British
Quad Championship just twenty-four hours later
at the spectacular Dean Moor Motocross Park
on the Northern tip of the Lake District,
the NETT promoted event on Sunday the 24th
of July saw Reid once again show the drive
and determination that has helped him to multi
British and Ulster titles, taking a 10-6 card
for a fantastic 6th overall on the day.

Reid currently
sits eighth in the points after round
4

Posting 10th fastest time around the fast
and flowing hard-pack circuit during the morning’s
timed qualification session, Reid’s
start to the first of the two scheduled twenty-five
minute plus two-lap motos left a lot of work
to do after gating 17th, but focusing on the
task at hand and scything his way through
the field as he adapted to the dusty conditions,
Reid gained five positions in the opening
quarter of the sixteen lapper before slotting
in to 9th as the race approached the halfway
point. Closing in on the riders in front as
he maintained his relentless pursuit, an unfortunate
coming together with another rider at half
distance saw Reid forced off his bike and
drop back to 14th as he quickly remounted
and got underway, but mounting another charge
as he battled to the front, Reid fought through
to 10th at the flag after thirty hot and hectic
minutes.

After
watering the track Reid made his way
the pack and excelled on the slick
surface placing sixth in Moto 2
|
With much changed surface conditions greeting
the riders for the final heat of the day, the
hot and sunny conditions necessitating some
watering during the interval to keep the dust
at bay, Reid struggled slightly of the line
and gated mid pack as the twenty-nine strong
field charged out on the opening lap, Reid adapting
quickly to the slick surface and immediately
beginning to work his way towards the front.
Breaking the timing beam for the first time
having moved up to 11th and slotting in to a
top ten position on the following lap, Reid’s
progression through the pack as he increased
his pace kept the large crowd in attendance
well entertained, Reid moving up to 7th at half
distance before gaining another position with
ten minutes left to run, Reid taking the checkered
in 6th and rounding out the day 8th in the series
standings.
After a hectic weekend’s racing with
just thirty points the deficit to 2nd in the
overall British Championship standings, Reid
commented “This was always going to
be a challenging weekend’s racing but
I really didn’t count on arriving at
the race late last night with neither bike
running properly! Thankfully my mechanic Tommy
and I were able to get up early and make one
pretty competitive quad from the two and it
worked out ok today because the track was
so slick that my power deficit wasn’t
a major factor.
I was really happy with the way I was able
to cut through the field in the first moto
but after I came together with Hellewell,
I lost momentum and didn’t feel that
I could push just as hard as before so 10th
was ok all things considered.
I had a slightly better start in the second
and was pushing hard early and closed right
up to the group at the front but I lost a
little time in the middle and had to try to
catch up again. The effort through the weekend
took its toll though and I was unable to get
in a position to make a pass in the end. I’m
a little disappointed as I think I should’ve
finished a couple of places higher.”
