Justwin's Justin Reid Retains 7th in Series Points at Tinkerhill
Goldspeed ACU British Quad Championship - Round 3 - July 2, 2011

Justwin Racing's Justin Reid currently sits seventh in the points after round 3

Tinkerhill, Northern Ireland (7/4/2011) - This past weekend saw the 2011 GOLDSPEED ACU British Quad Championship head across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland, Justwin Racing’s Justin Reid traveling the relatively short distance from his Comber base to the outskirts of Newry for round three of the seven round series.

Promoted by Quad Racing Ireland at the spectacular Tinkerhill Motocross Circuit on Saturday the 2nd of July, Reid once again put in a superb display to take a fantastic 6th in the opening heat, only a troublesome final moto 19th preventing him from finishing higher than 13th overall on the day, his valiant effort allowing him to remain 7th in the overall series standings.

Having last hosted a British Quad Championship meeting in 2007, the much revamped 0.9 mile hardpack circuit once again provided a tough test for the elite of British Quad racing, with some close fought battles over the two twenty-five minute plus two-lap motos to keep the spectators well entertained as they basked in the sunshine.

With his race bike still unavailable due to lack of time and parts, Reid once again used his Pont De Vaux Banshee for the early part of practice before switching to his standard enduro-spec Can-Am and posting 15th fastest time for a front row start. Gating 10th around the tight right hander as they headed out on the first of eighteen laps, Reid immediately put his vast knowledge of the circuit to good use and began to move through the field, moving up to 9th on the opening lap before slotting in to 7th at the halfway point. His years of experience outweighing the power advantage of his fully tuned competitor’s machines, Reid continued his charge up the leaderboard, moving up to 6th with five laps to go and comfortably holding position to take the checkered flag after thirty hot and hectic minutes.

A poor start by his standards saw Reid get bogged down at the start of the second moto, rounding the first corner in 20th and with a lot of work to do. Quickly adapting to the much-changed surface conditions and finding his rhythm, Reid began to work up through the field and within three laps had moved up to 17th when his progress was thwarted by a misfiring engine, Reid forced to pit to investigate the problem. Losing positions and time as they worked to get underway, Reid dropped to 22nd before the problem mysteriously rectified itself and the bike returned to full power. Almost a lap down to the rest of the field as he set of at a blistering pace, Reid amazingly caught up to the riders in front within three laps to move in to the points with 20th at half distance, closing the gap to 19th as the race progressed and taking the position on the last lap to secure two valuable championship points.

Currently 7th in the standings with four rounds remaining, Reid commented,
“Unfortunately I only got the parts for my race bike yesterday so when we put it together I wasn’t entirely happy with the way it was running, so rather than risk it I opted to run my spare bike today. It is pretty underpowered, so passing was hard but my consistency paid off in the first race and my pace was nearly identical each lap until the end so I’m happy about that. I’m not sure what happened in the second moto but with the new rules this year I can drop my worst 2 races – so I’m still in the thick of it…I’m now looking forward to Dean Moor where I will have a fresh bike which will really suit the fast track. A big ‘well done’ to everyone at Quad Racing Ireland for all their effort over the last few weeks – the track prep was excellent”.
