#14
Justin Reid grabbed the holeshot &
quickly began to check out on the competition
at round 3 to go on & take a set
of 3-1 moto finishes for 1st place overall |
UK (8/6/2010) - Comber based
Justin Reid made a spectacular return to Championship
Quad Racing action at the weekend, the Justwin
Racing Can-Am rider taking the overall win with
a 3-1 scorecard at the 3rd round of the 2010
Nutt Travel Ulster Premier Quad Championship.
Using their home circuit near Rasharkin for
the first time at Ulster Championship level,
the promoting Ballymoney & District MCC
overcame horrendous weather conditions in
the build up to the event to provide a tough
test around the natural terrain hillside venue
and some hard fought battles throughout the
day.
Having been sidelined from racing after a
freak accident at the British opener in May,
a broken left wrist in cast for six weeks
and two cracked bones in his right wrist the
resultant damage, Reid quickly showed that
despite the eleven week layoff he had not
lost any of his drive and commitment, converting
his 6th pick of gate in to a fantastic holeshot
as he lead the field out on the first of two
twenty-minute plus one-lap motos.

Reid
would come back from a few set-backs
in the 2nd moto to take home a well
deserved 1st place finish & the
overall win |
Quickly settling in to a comfortable pace at
the front of the chasing pack, Reid battled
hard to hold position in only his first time
on the bike in almost three months, dropping
back two slots as the race approached half distance,
but with dogged determination he fended off
numerous challenges for the remainder of the
moto before opening a four second gap, taking
the chequered flag after sixteen fast and furious
laps for a well deserved 3rd step on the podium.
As the gates dropped for the start of race
two it was almost a repeat of the earlier
heat, Reid charging off the line and narrowly
missing the holeshot to slot in to 2nd as
the field headed out on the first of sixteen
laps. Involved in a three way battle for 2nd
from the outset that kept the spectators well
entertained, Reid temporarily dropped back
to 4th as the ten-minute mark approached before
retaking his position on lap eight.
Maintaining his relentless pace as he gradually
bridged the gap to the leader, Reid took the
lead with five laps to go, and despite increasing
pressure and a poor run of backmarkers in
the latter stages he held position to the
chequered flag, an epic performance rewarded
with the overall win on the day for the Justwin
Racing Can-Am crew and propelling him nine
places to 7th in the Championship standings.
‘It’s great to be back! It sucked
being the victim of someone else’s problem
at the first race of the year but I’m
glad to say that I have made a full recovery
and it’s great to be out there again.
I literally haven’t ridden my quad for
eleven weeks so I’m definitely a bit
rusty but I got good starts and that was important
at this track. I’m looking forward to
the next event now and getting back up to
speed!’
