10 at Loretta Lynn's in Hurricane Mills, TN was
the final stop on the schedule of the AMA ATV MX
Nationals. With blue skies and warm weather in the
forecast, over 800 racers signed up to participate
in the prestigious race and they carved their way
through the terrain as practice rolled on throughout
most of the afternoon on Friday. With 2 Championships
already locked up for Team Joe Byrd Quad Riding
School, the pressure was off, but the Team still
wanted to have a good showing.AMA
                                ATV MX Championship - Round 10 - Loretta Lynn's
                                - August 11, 2012
For Gregg Miller, winning the first moto of
the 40+ Class on Saturday was a great way to return
to the races, after securing his title only 2
weeks prior at Red Bud MX. He finished off the
weekend in 2nd place overall, giving him a total
of 44 points over the next best rider. Unfortunately, the good luck Adrienne Cooper
seemed to have all season long came to an end
at the final round. After pulling the Holeshot
in the first moto of the Women's Class, Cooper
was ready to put the gap on the rest of the pack.
Her holeshot, however, was short-lived as she
made a critical mistake while exiting the 10 commandments.
After over-shooting a split line and landing high-centered
on a berm, Adrienne and her #1 machine were stuck
in the corner as the rest of the women raced around
her. As she hit the berm, the handlebars drove
deep into her ribs on her right side and created
excruciating pain for the Class Champion. Once she finally freed her ATV, she was up and
rolling and she was able to work her way up to
a 5th place finish. Once back at the pit, AC was
fully aware of how bad she had hurt her ribs,
as she struggled to take a deep breath. Although
not 100%, Cooper decided to attempt to racethe
2nd moto and lined up with the rest of the girls.
Rounding the holeshot turn in 3rd place, AC quickly
rallied her bike to the front of the pack and
led for several laps. Her adrenaline helped her
compete, but the pain was in full effect, as Adrienne
seemed to be all over the place on the track.
Unable to ride to her full potential, Cooper
made several mistakes, costing her the lead on
the last lap and taking 2nd place, 3rd overall
for the weekend (her worst finish for the season).
Although upset with her results for the weekend,
AC, her family and friends, and the rest ofher
Team climbed onto the podium to celebrate the
Championship and officially end their 2012 season. Joe Byrd made an attempt to finish the season
on a good note in his home state. After struggling
much of the season and during the first moto,
Joe fought hard during the second Pro moto as
he battled in 3rd and 4th place for the majority
of the race. Showing that he still has the speed
to run at the front of the pack, Joe is eager
to put his efforts into testing for the 2013 season,
and fight to get back up on the podium. Team Joe Byrd Quad Riding School would like to
thank all their sponsors for their support during
the 2012 season. We look forward to seeing everybody
                                in 2013!
