Seneca, PA (8/13/2014) - JB Racing / DWT / Mtn. Dew Live Wire Can-Am’s Joel Hetrick finished his season in a strong second in series championship points at the final round of the 2014 Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross Championships held at the legendary Loretta Lynn’s in Hurricane Mills, TN.

Rain, mud, heat and humidity were all a big part of round nine but for the first Pro moto of the day, conditions were fairly dry, which allowed Joel Hetrick to get a good start in the number four spot. Hetrick did not want to settle for fourth. He closed in on third place and waited for an opportunity, which he got in the fifth lap when the third place rider made a mistake and allowed Hetrick to slip by into the number three spot.

Once in third, Hetrick tried to chase down the leaders, but ran out of time before he could close in enough to make a move and finished in third. “I had a pretty good start and I just wanted to be ahead of Thomas Brown so I could keep my points lead over him,” said Hetrick.

Just before the second moto, rain poured down and saturated the track, creating a muddy, sloppy mess that wreaked havoc on many riders. The wet conditions caused Hetrick to spin off the start and come out in tenth place. Hetrick did his best and was able to work into the number eight spot, but visibility and conditions were poor due to all the mud, so Hetrick played it safe.  He settled in for an eighth place finish, which put him in fourth overall for the day and allowed him to finish in second place in championship points, his best season end in the Pro class so far.

“We had to change a few things because of the rain for the second moto but there was just so much mud. I didn’t get the start I wanted, but I wanted to ride smart and keep my points lead. This is my best points finish ever in the Pro class, and I am pretty happy about that. I have to thank all my sponsors, JB Racing, Mt. Dew, DWT, Can-Am, Corrosion, Makson Construction and everyone else for their support this year,” said Hetrick, who finished with 339 points.

Now that the season is over, Joel Hetrick will be taking a short break, but it won’t be long before he is back training in hopes of winning the 2015 Pro ATV Motocross Championship.
