Langrish, England (8/31/2011) - One week
after his team won the prestigious 12hr Pont de
Vaux endurance event in France for the second
year running, HOLMES Racing’s Paul Holmes
exhibited extreme determination, speed and consistency
at Round 5 of the 7 round 2011 Goldspeed British
Championship taking Runner-up spot on the podium
last Sunday. This is the third 2nd place overall
for Holmes in the last three British Championship
rounds.
The 45th annual ‘Ken Hall Trophy’
played host to the race day’s action on
the technical and challenging hard packed Langrish
circuit. Paul Holmes showed once again he is
the man with the speed in the 2011 Goldspeed
British Championship as he claimed his 4th fastest
lap in qualification from the 4 rounds he has
attended. Paul’s time was 0.400 seconds
faster than 2nd placed Watson and a huge 2.400
seconds quicker than series points leader Mitchell
in 3rd.
Race 1:
Rounding the first turn in 4th place, Holmes
made quick work of the riders ahead, taking
the lead as he passed Mitchell on lap 3. With
a small mistake just following the pass, Holmes
ran wide in a corner on the run up to a jump,
coming short on the landing of a jump allowing
Watson to take the lead. The positions remained
until the checkerd flag with Holmes taking a
comfortable 2nd place.
Race 2: Another top
5 start from Holmes saw him in the leading group
as the race got underway and although he battled
his way through to 2nd place immediately, he'd
lost ground to the early race leader. Holmes,
not feeling 100% thanks to a personal battle
with a nasty gastric flu bug, rode smart all
the way to the finish and claimed another 2nd

With two 2nd place finishes, Holmes took Runner-up
spot on the overall Podium and bagged a lot
of valuable Championship points. Over the past
7 races, Holmes is the only rider to have finished
every race in the top 3 showing great speed
and consistency. Despite not being able to attend
the first round of the British Championship
due to an event clash with the European Championship,
Holmes has now moved into 3rd place in the Championship
standings.

Holmes commented after the day’s action:
“I've exceeded my expectations this weekend
as I've been really ill during the run up to
this event and I haven't been able to stick
to my regular nutritional plan. This meant all
day I struggled to focus in the races with lack
of energy and hydration. But, I managed to ride
smart and work when I needed to, taking two
2nd place finishes and another overall 2nd place
on the podium which is fantastic. I must say
a huge thanks to the team who helped get me
through this weekend and a continued thanks
to my great supporters and sponsors. Holmes
now travels to Slagelse, Denmark to contest
Round 6 of the 2011 Goldspeed European Championship
where he currently sits just 15 points away
from 1st place.
The 7th and final round of the Goldspeed European
Championship takes place the following weekend
at the legendary Rudersberg circuit in Germany
where Holmes has managed to shine through and
win the overall race for the last two years
so he is hoping to keep that pattern flowing!
