Racing's Paul Holmes and his KTM Race
quad went 1-1 on the day at round 5
in Pennan to claim his 5th straight
overall win of the season thus far

Pennan, Scotland (7/6/2010) - Current European
Champion Paul Holmes made the long trip north
of the border to Pennan, amidst the spectacular
scenery of Aberdeenshire for round 5 of
the SACU Scottish Championship on 4th July.
Rain had fallen throughout Saturday night and
it looked unlikely that any
racing would take place. But, the weather lightened
up mid morning and a
good strong wind helped dry the track out enough
to let the racing commence.
Race 1 saw Holmes grab a crucial Holeshot in
front of John Mitchell and the
rest of the pack in hot pursuit. The technical
hard pack track was soon
conquered by Holmes who wasted no time in pulling
a gap. Holmes went on to
take the win with a comfortable gap of almost
15 seconds on Mitchell.
Race 2 involved a much busier first corner
and Holmes was in second place
with riders either side of him but was soon
applying pressure to early race
leader Mitchell. Just three laps in, Holmes
made the move up the inside on a
tight left hand turn before the rhythm section.
Holmes kept his cool and his
lead on Mitchell until the chequered flag which
saw him finish with another
comfortable lead.
Because the extreme weather conditions had
meant a late start to the day's
racing, only two of the usual three races were
run. So, Holmes has now won
13 from 14 starts and has claimed his 5th overall
win from 5 staying
unbeaten.
Holmes commented after the days racing: "I've
really enjoyed today, the
track was really great and soon dried out, just
brilliant for racing. It was
also great practice for the upcoming European
round in St Mamet, France just
2 weekends away. I've stepped up my mid week
training and made some more
slight adjustments to the bike set-up and all
in all I feel great. Once
again i'd like to say a big thanks to all my
sponsors, family and friends."
