Aberdeenshire, Scotland (6/1/2010) - Round 3 of the Scottish Championship
was held this bank holiday weekend at the stunning
circuit of Rhynie in Aberdeenshire. With the weather
being mild and the circuit prepared perfectly
the day was set for some exciting racing for those
fans that made the trek up north.
Race 1 saw the current points leader Paul Holmes
get a good start making it around the first
corner in 2nd place. With the track in a perfectly
smooth condition the lap times were very fast
and with a tough track to pass on Holmes had
to settle for 2nd place but along the way record
the fastest lap time of the race with a 2:05.780
in lap 6.
Race 2 began in a similar way for Holmes rounding
the first corner in 2nd place and start to work
on the leader, with only a few passing opportunities
opening up on the high speed circuit, Holmes
worked hard and managed to make a pass for the
lead on Beda just coming up to the half way
point. Holmes continued his momentum until the
chequered flag, taking the win.
As the rain began over the circuit for Race
3, Holmes didn't get the ideal start seeing
him round the first corner in 4th. Being behind
other riders making visibility poor, Holmes
soon made the pass for 3rd before the second
corner. Continuing his charge to the front,
Holmes past Beda before lap two was complete
and starting closing in on leader Mitchell setting
another fastest lap of the race with a 2:09.031
showing how much the rain had slowed the racing
down from race 1. Holmes made a pass on Mitchell
for the lead at the half way point and started
pulling a small gap, with concentration levels
high to prevent any spin outs Holmes calmed
the original pace and stayed consistent until
the finish taking another win making it 8 wins
from the seasons 9 races.
With another overall 1st place in the bag making
it 3 from 3 Holmes commented after the days
racing;
"It has been a great day for me and the
team, we put in a lot of hard work since my
last race in Italy and really feel we have a
good set-up now heading into the next European
Championship round in Poland. The organization
has been great today and the track was awesome
even with the rain. I'm pleased with my speed
and happy to extend my Championship lead and
want to once again say a huge thanks to my team,
all my sponsors and family"
