Cardenden, Scotland (4/27/2010)
- The small Scottish town of Cardenden played
host to Round 2 of the Scottish Championship on
Sunday 25th April. The torrential rain, which
had threatened the smooth running of the day's
racing, stopped eventually and another action
packed event was soon underway.
In race 1, Paul Holmes had first gate choice
and took an awesome holeshot
leading the pack around the first corner. Before
the race was halfway through he'd pulled a decent
lead of seven seconds, making the fastest lap
of the race on lap 5 with a 1.43.837. Holmes
continued his own race out front, riding at
his own pace while keeping the rest of the pack
a good distance behind. He crossed the finish
line just under nine seconds ahead of Scotsman
John Mitchell.
Race 2 saw another outstanding performance
from Holmes who had made a few
minor alterations to his quad's set up to better
suit the track conditions. He soon pulled away
from the rest of the pack and in lap 3 he secured
another fastest lap of 1.42.054. This race was
cut short just over the half way point when
it was red-flagged due to an accident. The results
stood, with Holmes claiming the win over Scotsmen
Leon Beda in 2nd and John Mitchell in 3rd.
Yet another holeshot for Holmes made it 3 from
3 and leading the pack round
the opening bends he soon pulled a gap. Knowing
the track conditions were
getting difficult as the circuit got rougher
he was careful not to make any mistakes. Attaining
a decent gap, he continued to pull away and
in lap 4 set a 1.41.480 lap time, which not
only was the fastest of the race but the fastest
of the entire day. With another flag to flag
race win Holmes claimed his third win of the
day and his winning streak took him to 6 from
6 in the Championship.
Paul commented after the days action:
"What a difference a week
makes! I was really unlucky last weekend but
that's behind me and things are looking good.
We made some adjustments to
the quad mid week, taking on board some excellent
advice about changing the
set-up and as a result the quad has been awesome
all day. As the day progressed we made more
adjustments to the set-up in the hope of gaining
a few extra seconds here and there which was
really beneficial as my ever improving lap times
showed. I'm happy with how today has gone and
I am looking forward to the British Championship
in Northern Ireland in a fortnight's time. Once
again I would like to say a huge thanks to all
my sponsors and supporters as they're all brilliant
and I couldn't achieve this without their help
and generosity."
