Pont de Vaux, France (8/25/2010) -
The Maxxis Pont de Vaux 2010 12 hour endurance
team event was held last weekend in the picturesque
town of Pont de Vaux, France. It was the 24th
annual edition of the world famous event and
the competiton was tougher than ever. Paul Holmes
teamed up with Romain Couprie and Joe Maessen
and rode with Team Audemar to take the overall
victory joining the legendary list of riders
who've won this prestigious race.
The race is split between 3 stages. The first
being a 3 hour day session on Saturday, followed
closely by a 5 hour night session and then a
final 4 hour session on Sunday. Holmes, Couprie
and Maessen showed amazing consistency with
top 3 place finishes in all sessions. They pushed
enough to take the overall win with a time of
12hrs:08m:27s which was just 37.299 secs ahead
of the very impressive Motoworks team of Warnia,
Zimmerman and Frederick. The battle of the two
teams came down to the wire and after taking
a total of 225 laps it was the closest margin
of victory the race has seen in years showing
just how competitive it has become. 3rd place
went to the all French team Drag’on Distribution
just 1 lap behind. Holmes is the first British
rider to win the prestigious race in 5 years.

This major addition to his list of achievements
comes just one week after winning both rounds
4 and 5 of the British Championship in Leuchars,
Scotland. Holmes really has some momentum rolling
to head into his next event which is the final
round of the European Championship in Rudersberg,
Germany where Holmes went 2-1-1 for the overall
win last year.
Holmes commented after the event: "I've
done this event 5 times now and I know that
to even finish is difficult, but we had a really
strong team and great machine. Winning feels
amazing! It came down to the very last lap of
the tense 12 hours race so all the training
and effort we'd put in really paid off. I think
this years competition was the hardest of the
past few years' with fierce competition on the
track. To race at Pont de Vaux is a fantastic
experience but to take the win here is phenomenal.
It’s going to look great on my portfolio!
I’ve now got a few weeks off so I'll be
preparing for the finals of both the European
and British Championships. This competition
wasn’t on my original agenda so I’d
like to thank my great sponsors for their understanding
and unfailing support."
