at round 4

Wschowas, Poland (6/9/2010) - Paul Holmes
Wins European Championship Round in Poland Wschowa,
Poland played host to Round 4 of the tightly contested
Goldspeed European Quadcross Championship. HOLMES
Racing's reigning champion Paul Holmes showed
excellent form throughout the weekend which put
him on the podium 3 from 3 races taking the overall
win in style.
Saturday's action saw 2 free 30 minutes practice
sessions during which Holmes made the final
preparation to his HOLMES Racing KTM. The 30
minutes qualifying session which followed saw
Holmes go straight to the top of the timing
screens with a great lap of 2:09.059. Taking
the extremely hot weather conditions into consideration
Holmes chose to conserve energy and settle with
his lap giving him a 3rd choice of the gate
for Sundays racing.
Race 1: Holmes got a good
start rounding the first corner in 3rd place.
The track was quick, wide and in great condition
and Holmes made the most of it, making the pass
on Montalbini on lap 2 and heading for the lead.
Chasing down early leader Couprie, Holmes set
the fastest lap of the race, one of which was
the quickest of all three races, and closed
the gap. Unfortunately hindered by lapped traffic,
late into the second half of the race, Holmes
finished in a strong 2nd place, 5 seconds clear
of 3rd.

Race 2: Holmes had his work cut
out for him rounding the 1st corner in 6th place.
With the superb track in prime condition, Holmes
made use of the line options and moved into 4th
place before lap one was complete. After many
battles with other riders, the mid point of the
25 minutes + 2 lap race saw Holmes in 3rd and
charging towards the front. After moving into
2nd place with two laps to go Holmes made a pass
on Ternynck and continued pushing until the chequered
flag taking the race win and valuable championship
points.
Race 3: Badly blistered hands
meant this was going to be a difficult race
but Holmes blanked it out of his mind and took
a great holeshot. He pushed 100% but the pain
started to get to him at the mid way point.
However, he stayed strong enough to take another
podium finish of 3rd knowing he had the overall
win in the bag. With the overall 1st place Holmes
moves up to 3rd place in the Championship and
commented after the days racing:
“The whole weekend for me and the team
has been great, we not only took the overall
win but got a lot of valuable points to go toward
my title defence. Moving to 3rd in the Championship
is great and I aim to keep the momentum going
and look forward to more great results. The
new set-up we have for the Quad is awesome;
I really feel dialed in with it and would like
to say a big thanks to Wayne at PEP Suspension
for all his help. Once again I’d like
to say a big thanks to my team and all my great
sponsors for their brilliant help and continued
support”
