in Scotland for both rounds 4 &
5

Leuchars, Scotland (8/17/2010) - Two rounds of the 2010 GOLDSPEED
British Quad Championship were held on the same
action packed weekend at the extremely challenging
sand circuit of Leuchars; brilliantly hosted by
Quad Racing Scotland. Saturday 14th August:
Race 1: Making a great start,
2009 European Quad Champion Paul Holmes was
in the top 5 around the first corner and made
quick progress getting into 2nd place but on
lap 3 Holmes unfortunately pulled out the engine
cut-out cord and dropped back to 8th place.
Finding some great lines and riding with his
head Holmes was in 4th place by the half way
point in the race. He then made further passes
on John Mitchell and Jason McBeth to get into
2nd position where he then battled for the lead.
However, suffering from an overheated clutch
was unable to hold onto 1st place and had to
settle for 2nd, finishing 0.357 secs from the
race winner.
Race 2: Not content with his
race 1 result Holmes took charge of the race
from the gate drop taking a great Holeshot and
rode hard and smooth for the first 20mins of
the race pulling a huge 20 seconds from 2nd
placed Winrow. Holmes held his impressive lead
until the chequered flag with an eventual lead
of 21.031 secs, taking not only the race win
but the overall win on the day as the remainder
of the day's racing was cancelled due to time
constraints.
Sunday 15th August Race 1:
Pleased with his performance during Round 4,
Holmes intended to keep the momentum going and
achieve top results. Starting the race rounding
the first corner in 5th place Holmes had his
work cut out. As the track was in good condition
after the previous night's preparation the speed
was intense and passing was difficult but Holmes
was patient and made the passes when he needed
in order to conserve energy on the demanding
track. As Holmes picked off the 4 riders in
front of him, including race leader MacBeth,
Holmes set the fastest lap of the day with a
1:57.872 which was also the fastest lap of the
whole weekend! After taking the lead with a
few laps remaining, Holmes pulled a comfortable
gap of just over 12 seconds and crossed the
finish line to take the race win.

Paul Holmes made
an even more impressive statement on
Sunday when he won all three motos on
the day to take home his second overall
win in Scotland

Race 2: Making an awesome Holeshot, Holmes blasted round the
first corner and never looked back setting another
fastest lap of the race with a 2:01.234 and rode
to another great win 19.803 seconds over 2nd placed
Winrow.
Race 3: With his heart set
on another race win, Holmes claimed 2nd spot
round the first corner. Within a few laps Holmes
had passed Winrow around the outside of a sweeping
bend and proceeded to charge all the way until
the chequered flag claiming yet another race
win making it 3 from 3 on the day. Holmes showed
immense speed, exceptional fitness and a perfect
bike set-up and also recorded another fastest
lap of the race which was over half a second
faster than his closest competitor.
Winning both Round 4 and 5, Holmes is the first
person this season to win more than one round
and has moved from 6th place in the series to
2nd with 2 rounds to go!
Holmes commented after the weekends racing:
"This weekend has been perfect for both
me and the team. We've worked really hard and
we've had a lot of traveling with back to back
race weekends, the last one being the GOLDSPEED
European Championship round in Latvia, so I
am really pleased we've pulled it off, and in
this way!! In all the races I felt great, I
loved the track, and with 4 wins and a 2nd it
showed. I'd like to thank my supporting sponsors,
friends and family for helping me achieve these
2 overall wins!"
Holmes now moves onto the next race, the spectacular
12 hour Quad Endurance at Pont de Vaux, France,
where he'll be teaming up with Romain Couprie
and Joe Maessen.
