Holmes Racing's
Paul Holmes took home 2nd place at round
3 in Whitehaven

Whitehaven, Cumbria (8/3/2010) - Round 3 of the Goldspeed British
Quad Championship was held at the spectacular
Dean Moor circuit in Whitehaven, Cumbria on Sunday
1st August. With mixed weather running up to the
event and a wet track awaiting the riders for
the Sundays morning practice, it was set to be
an interesting day with extremely difficult track
conditions.
HOLMES Racing’s Paul Holmes had used
the previous weekend's break from racing wisely
by working on his fitness and looked strong
going into the days action.
Race 1: Knowing that a good
start was crucial to the race result in the
wet conditions, Holmes made the best start he
could and rounded the first corner in 5th place.
With a few quick decision passes on the opening
few laps, Holmes soon passed the two riders
in front of him and caught up to the 2nd placed
rider. At the half way point Holmes was still
pushing hard for 2nd but with an overheating
clutch and engine due to the wet and muddy conditions
Holmes settled for 3rd step of the podium. Holmes
worked hard all day to claim 2nd overall Holmes
winning race 3
Race 2: As track conditions
had improved since Race 1, this turned out to
be a much more interesting race. Holmes rounded
the first corner in 9th place but rapidly moved
up several places on the opening laps and soon
found himself in 5th place. Holmes continued
his charge to the front by passing Bunce and
Winrow and at the half way point was chasing
2nd placed MacBeth.

time during his moto after a bobble
in a corner stalled his engine - he
was back for redemption & he found
it

Trying a little too hard in one tight corner Holmes stalled the engine finding
himself back in 6th place when he rejoined the
race. Not happy with his mistake Holmes made a
charge for the front and set the fastest lap of
the race with a 1:56.168 which was also the fastest
lap of the day, almost a full second quicker than
any other rider. After passing two more riders
he was up to 4th and used the remaining two laps
to push hard and finish less than one second behind
3rd placed Mitchell.
Race 3: Trying to improve
on his previous starts off the concrete grid
Holmes gave it everything he had in the final
start of the day, coming out of the first corner
in 2nd place. Before two laps were done Holmes
had flown past Winrow for the lead and pulled
an immediate gap. Holmes continued setting blistering
lap times pulling away from the entire field.
Holmes notched up the fastest lap of Race 3
with a 1:56.667 and was the only person to set
lap times in the 1.56’s all day. Happy
with a very comfortable gap between himself
and the rest of the pack Holmes rode flawlessly
taking the chequered flag and the race win.
With a 3rd, 4th and a race win Holmes claimed
2nd place on the Podium for the overall result.
Holmes commented on the day's racing: “I
have really enjoyed today and the track turned
out to be really good despite the poor weather
running up to the weekend's racing. I’m
pleased with my speed and fitness at the present
and I think that by winning the last race so
comfortably I’ve got what I need to take
more wins in this series."
