Bakersfield, CA (1/29/2013) - The H&M Motorsports / Maxxis Tires team had a phenomenal weekend at the 2013 WORCS season opener at Canyon MX Park in Peoria, Arizona. David Haagsma raced his H&M prepped Honda to his career first WORCS Pro ATV class win on Sunday. Teammate Beau Baron earned third in the Pro ATV race after taking the SxS Pro Production class win on Saturday in the H&M Motorsports / Holz Racing Polaris RZR XP 900.

Haagsma didn’t get a great start and had to work his way through nasty mud and roost to catch the leader. The race was one of survival with deep mud and water holes, and despite all the chaos Haagsma was able to fight through the mud and earn the win by eight seconds.

“My Maxxis Tires and Tireblocks were hooking up great. We also put in a lot of testing with Elka suspension and it paid off,” regarded Haagsma of his H&M prepped Honda.

Haagsma’s win is huge for the Bakersfield, CA racer as he quests for his first WORCS ATV Pro Championship. He only finished off the podium three times in the 2012 season and the young racer is a strong contender for the 2013 championship.

“It feels really good to start out with a win. I can’t thank my parents, Maxxis Tires, H&M Motorsports, Tireblocks and my pit crew enough. They all help me make this possible,” regarded Haagsma from the podium.

Baron started out the weekend on a high note when he earned the fastest qualifying time aboard his Holz Racing prepped Polaris RZR XP 900 SxS / UTV. Baron lined up on Saturday with first gate pick and his decision to park his H&M Motorsports backed RZR on the far inside paid off. Baron and his Sparks engine rocketed off the line and claimed the first holeshot of year; he led the SxS race from start to finish.

The weather at the track was far from desirable as over an inch of rain had fallen within twelve hours of the race. Baron attributes his RZRs handling to the Maxxis Viper tires that he ran.  “The Maxxis Vipers combined with the Tireblocks worked awesome. I could hit anything I wanted with no stress, which was great,” said Baron.

In addition to winning the WORCS SxS Pro Class, Baron placed third in the ATV Pro Class at Canyon MX

Baron only had one night to rest before he had to defend his title in the ATV pro class. Baron got a great start on his H&M Honda 450r ATV, but fell back a bit in the first turns. Attempting to make up lost time he used a late pit strategy, however the mud foiled his plan as his gloves were too muddy to hold on and the late pit hindered his ability to ride hard.

Once Baron received dry gloves he put the hammer down and made up time on the front runners. Baron crossed the line in third place, earning the final podium spot. He not only crossed the line almost three minutes in front of fourth, but Baron also earned the fastest lap of the day, a 06:29.113 in lap 14.

“It’s a huge group effort to get this program together and I really appreciate everything from everyone,” said Baron on the podium.

The H&M duo will return to the WORCS series in just two short weeks, February 9-10. After racing two races and earning two wins at round one you can bet that Haagsma and Baron will try their hardest for a repeat weekend.
