GPS Offroad Products ATV Racers Podium at Lake Havasu WORCS
WORCS ATV Racing - Crazy Horse - Lake Havasu, AZ - March 24, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (3/27/2013) – WORCS racing returned to Crazy Horse campground in Lake Havasu, Arizona this past weekend and the show was once again in the Pro-Am class as 19 Pro-Am riders lined up to battle the ruts and rocks of one of the most demanding courses of the series.  The race course is unique in that it covers a very small area but snakes back and forth between two ravines.  From the start, racers make their way around a very brutal mx track, littered with squared edges and potholes before diving down into one of the ravines.  Eventually racers made their way out to the beach before reaching the optional Lagoon jump.

Despite experiencing a mechanical issue GPS' Mike Sloan still holds down the points lead after WORCS Round 3

GPS Offroad Products racer Mike Sloan shot out of the blocks earning himself the $100 Casey Johnson memorial holeshot award, his second of the season, and continued to lead the pack until lap number 9 when he suffered a mechanical issue with his chain.  “The chain guide broke off causing the chain to derail which meant I had to take off the guide which was still attached to the chain and put the chain back on the sprocket.  All of this took at least five minutes and by then the entire Pro Am class passed me.”

Sloan was able to remount and make a charge for the front, passing all the way back up to 8th place.  The setback definitely hurt him in his hunt for the championship but he still retains the points lead after three rounds.

David Flores earned second place in the Pro-Am Class at Crazy Horse Campground WORCS aboard his GPS Offroad Products backed Honda 450R ATV

Another GPS Offroad Products rider, this one making his way to the Pro-Am Podium for the first time this season was David Flores.  Flores was on track to easily finish in the top three at round 2 but a mechanical failure ended his race early and forced him to settled for 21st place.

In Havasu, Flores managed to come off the line near the front but the one line track made passing very difficult.  On a track like Havasu consistency and riding smart will often times win out over sheer skill and speed.  Flores was able to ride consistent and pick off a different rider every few laps, leaving him in 2nd place when the checkered flag flew.

The Pro race was a different story after both Collins Webster and Dillon Zimmerman had difficulty starting their quads from the dead engine start.  Once they were moving, both riders quickly caught the pack and freight trained through the one lined race course.

Dillon Zimmerman experienced a mechanical issue that gave him an unfortunate DNF

Zimmerman was keeping a great pace and staying right with the leaders until the third lap when his countershaft sprocket managed to break loose.  This unfortunate hiccup forced his second DNF of the season but Zimmerman was pleased with the performance of his Can-Am DS450, in particularly his suspension, up until that point.

Webster battled the brutal Havasu course and on the first few laps it seemed like it might get the best of him.  He was able to recover and pick up his pace during the later part of the race and settled for a sixth place finish.

A handful of amateur riders excelled in putting GPS Offroad Products and Sun F tires on the box for the weekend. Alexander Ortiz continued his dominance in the production 250 classes with 3 overalls while Jered Teixeira and Conrad Funke earned 3rd and 4th in 30 A on Sunday.

WORCS racers will enjoy almost a month off before taking on the sand and slick rock of Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane Utah.  GPS Offroad Products would also like to remind everyone to keep WORCS racer Josh Frederick and his family in their thoughts and prayers. Josh suffered a nasty get off in Havasu and is currently in the hospital recovering from a broken back.
