GPS Offroad Products' Mike Sloan Wins Pro-Am WORCS Round 2
WORCS SxS / UTV Racing - Buffalo Bills - Primm, NV - February 9, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (2/12/2013) – Mike Sloan and a handful of amateur racers put GPS Offroad Products and Sun F Tires atop the podium this weekend at the 2nd Round of the World Offroad Championship Series in Primm, Nevada.

After wrapping up 2012 in third place overall, Sloan is hungry for a Pro-Am Championship in 2013.  Pro and Pro-Am racers faced a dead engine start on the asphalt at Primm and Sloan grabbed the early lead by taking the $200 Casey Johnson Memorial holeshot award.  From the asphalt, racers were funneled through a narrow shoot and out onto the trophy truck track where Sloan spun out on the extremely slippery surface.  Several riders were able to capitalize on his mistake but he was able to work his way back into third by the end of lap one, taking over the lead on lap 3 and never looking back.

After taking the Production A win on Saturday, David Flores was coming on strong in Sundays Pro-Am race and managed to pass his way up to second.  He road behind Sloan and was looking as though he had 2nd place wrapped up but a blown radiator hose would bring him to a halt.  Fortunately he had completed enough laps so as to avoid a DNF but would settle for 21st place.

In the Pro Class, Collins Webster would be the only GPS Offroad Products racer to survive the rutted and whooped out Primm race course after mechanical problems would sideline his teammate Dillon Zimmerman.  Webster came off the line near the front of the pack but would settle into 7th place and remain there until the end of the race.  Webster is learning the ropes of the pro class and is holding down 7th place in the points chase.

Dillon Zimmerman’s trouble started before the race even began when his quad failed to start early in the morning.  With little time to diagnose the problem, the team opted to swap motors and did so in record time.  With the motor replaced Zimmerman was looking forward to the dead engine start after holeshoting at Primm the year before.  Although he was one of the first off the line, a bump from another racer forced him to let off the gas going into the bottleneck first turn, putting him mid pack.  Zimmerman charged hard for about a lap until he encountered problems with his rear shock.  He was able to pit and make some adjustments to get him back on the course but unfortunately electrical problems would end his day and force a DNF.

“We’ve been testing with some extremely lightweight shocks, but after this race we are going to move forward with a stronger design” said Ty Zimmerman, team manager and mechanic for his son.  “Between the new race program, relocating our family as well as launching GPS Offroad Products and warehousing literally thousands of ATV and UTV tires, we’ve been going wide open and are looking forward to this break between races to fine tune our program.”

In the amateur ranks, Alex Ortiz piloted his Yamaha Raptor 250 to three overall finishes on a single set of Sun F tires.  Coupled with Sloan’s overall in the Pro-Am race and Flores’s Production A win, GPS Offroad Products took home five overall’s for the weekend and is extremely happy with the performance of their new Sun F tire and Goldspeed product lines.

Racers will enjoy almost a month between rounds before the series resumes at Crazy Horse Lake in Lake Havasu Arizona.  The GPS Offroad Products team will continue testing and developing with their suspension team at JRI Shocks to ensure Dillon has the best setup possible coming into round three.
