Jason Dunkelberger heads to the west coast
for the 2009 Yamaha / ITP Quadcross Series
on the all-new 2009 Yamaha YFZ450R |
Trevorton, PA (12/13/2008) –
With the 2009 season quickly approaching, many
racers are in the process of finalizing their
support for the upcoming year, and privateer Jason
“Dunk” Dunkelberger is no exception.
Jason, who has always been a fan favorite at
the AMA ATV Motocross Nationals has joined forces
with Golden West Cycle and will be piloting
the new Yamaha YFZ450R, however Dunk will only
be making limited appearances at Nationals in
2009. “I will be dedicated to racing the
Yamaha ITP Quadcross series out west next season.
I will still be at some of the Nationals, but
I won’t be running the whole series this
year,” said Jason.
The nation’s economic downturn has had
quite an impact on the ATV racing industry for
the 2009 season and while manufacturers make
cutbacks and try to work with more restricted
budgets, the downward financial spiral has taken
it’s biggest toll on the privateers involved
in the sport with many some actually being left
out in the cold for 2009. “I really didn’t
want to step away from Nationals, but with the
economy being the way it is, there’s just
no way I could afford to do Nationals full time
with the support I had. I had a couple of options,
but not many because of so many companies cutting
back and going out of business this year and
Golden West seemed like the best offer,”
Dunk stated. In addition to Golden West Cycles,
Velocity Air Filters will be offering their
support, and Dunk will also be receiving some
limited support from Yamaha throughout the season.

Although he is changing gears somewhat for next
season, Dunk is still optimistic and has set some
high goals for himself. “I’m actually
looking forward to racing on the west coast. They
have great weather all year round and I’ll
be getting to race on the new Yamaha,” Dunk
said excitedly. “I was out in California
a little while ago and got a chance to ride the
YFZ450R and it’s a really great bike.”
Dunk will be training hard as he has his sights
set on taking the Yamaha ITP Quadcross Pro Championship
next year. “As soon as Golden West gets
done building my Yamaha, I will be heading to
Florida to train for a good part of the winter
so I’ll be in top form for the first round
in March. There’s some good competition
that will be racing there next year so I’m
going to be training really hard and am going
to try to win it,” said Jason determinedly.
Jason will surely have plenty of competition,
as current Quadcross champion Dustin Nelson
will be returning to the series to defend his
title. The series will also see a couple of
other national level racers that will be dedicated
to the Yamaha ITP Quadcross series next year
including Sage Baker, Hunter Miller, and it
is also rumored that French racer Jeremy Warnia
will be competing at Quadcross for the 2009
season. “I think there’s going to
be a lot of really good racing and a lot of
good competition at Quadcross for 2009. I’m
looking forward to the first round and can’t
wait to get out there and get some more seat
time on my new Yamaha,” Dunk concluded.
Look for Dunk to make his Golden West/Yamaha
debut on March 8th at Glen Helen where the first
round of the 2009 Yamaha ITP Quadcross series
will be held in conjunction with the pro only,
season opener of the AMA ATV Motocross Nationals.
