Derrec Robinson GNCC Round 3 Youth ATV Race Report

Steele Creek GNCC - Round 3 - March 21, 2009 - 90cc Mod 12-15

Morganton, NC (3/25/2009)
- We arrived at the track on Friday morning. We got the quads unloaded and my dad asked me to take a rip to test it out. I started it up, took a slow spin and then when I went full throttle it just bogged. My dad, pap and Tim worked on the quad for twelve hours. I walked the track with the Shadron’s and Hess’s while they tinkered. They all worked so hard to figure out the problem. My dad said to me, “It’s the best I can do little man. Just go out there and give it your all for as long as the quad will last.” And that is what I did.

I was second off the line and then mid way through the first lap I began to lose power. I was fourth upon the completion of my first lap. I kept on going until the quad wouldn’t go no more. I ended up getting towed back in , which put me in10th place this race.

As for Justin Hess, he was having problems as well in the beginning, but the quad worked itself out for a nice solid finish and Allie Slate was coming up behind me on the second lap when bad luck struck her with her thumb throttle snapping off. My brother Brody, who races in the 70cc CVT Class ended up beating Allie and I in the overall.

It was a long ride home and he kept reminding me that he beat me. Even though we encountered so many problems, the track was awesome. The hills, the creek crossing, the tight paths. This still is my favorite track. It offers such a challenge.

Better luck next time. I would like to give a special thank you to my dad, pappy and Tim Hess for all their hard work and support that day. We’ll see all of you again in South Carolina.
