Morgantown, WV (9/6/2011) - The
2011 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series
returns to racing this weekend, September 10 and
11, after a summer break in the schedule. Unadilla
Valley Sports Center will play host to round 10
of the series as ATV racers are put to a two-hour
test to see who did what over break.
Defending XC1 Champion, Rockstar Makita Suzuki's
Chris Borich has swept five of the first eight
rounds of racing, creating a twenty-seven-point
lead over Warnert Racing Can-Am's Adam McGill.
McGill has kept Borich honest this year with two
race-wins under his belt and with five rounds
of racing to go, the 2011 championship will be
a hard fought battle. Don't exclude GT Thunder's
Brian Wolf, who also has a race-win this year,
accompanied by podium finishes in rounds seven
and nine.
Ballance Racing's Taylor Kiser and Warnert Racing's
Chris Bithell share a two-point gap for the third
place position after eight rounds of racing. Both
Kiser and Bithell have finished consistently inside
the top five so far and a race-win could boost
these guys to the next level as they compete for
a national championship position in 2011.
Ballance Racing's Walker Fowler has dominated
the XC2 division this season, sweeping all eight
races thus far. With time adjustment, Fowler has
finished inside the top ten overall all year,
while also capturing his first-ever overall win
at roundseven.
In addition to a panel of youth classes available
on both the ATV and bike schedule, the Unadilla
GNCC also offers "Pee Wee" classes to
kids ages (4-6). This event is uniquely co-sanctioned
with the Western New York Offroad Association
(WNYOA), featuring several young racers from the
Western New York area who are competing for points
in their local series in addition to earning points
at a national GNCC event.
ATVs will compete throughout the day on Saturday,
September 10, with 50cc youth classes beginning
at 2 p.m., and dirt bikes will race all day Sunday,
September 11. Local riders are invited to race
the event as well, as GNCC racing offers classes
for riders of all skill and experience levels.
The amateur racer entry fee is $40 and riders
can sign up at the track.Spectator passes run
$15 for the full weekend, with pro pit access
and pro autographs at no additional charge. On
both Saturday and Sunday, youth riders race at
8 a.m., beginner riders race at 10 a.m., and the
top amateurs and the pros race at 1 p.m.
