GBC
Motorsports’ Riders Top the Podium at
Unadilla GNCC
Unadilla
GNCC - Round 9 - New Berlin, NY - September
10, 2011
Ontario, CA (9/17/2011) - GBC Motorsports
enjoyed more top 10 finishes in the XC1 Pro class
at the 10th round of this year’s GNCC at Unadilla
in New Berlin, New York last weekend. Several more
GBC riders won their class races and look to finish
the 2011 GNCC season strong, with just four rounds
left to race.
Always a popular stop on the GNCC tour, the famed
Unadilla Valley Sports Complex served as the return
from a nine week summer break. Many anticipated
that the aftermath of hurricane Irene would turn
the event into a muddy mess. Despite numerous
road closures and widespread flooding throughout
the surrounding areas, racers and fans were treated
to near-perfect race conditions.
There are two major factors when competing for
the holeshot at the national level: quick reactions
and superior traction. GBC riders Kristen Atwell
and Jeff Pickens seem to have mastered the quick
reaction, and used the grip of their GBC X-Rex
and GBII XC tires to wheelie away with the lead
in the Womens Class and XC1 Class, respectively.
When asked about the key to getting holeshots
in this 2011 season Jeff Pickens replied, “It’s
all about the GBC tires and Rekluse clutch. They
do all the work – all I do is hold on.”
The XC1 Pro race saw three GBC riders finish
in the top ten, with Bryan Cook, Kevin Yoho and
Jeffrey Pickens finishing 7-8-9- after a grueling
seven laps of racing. “I was able to get
the lead from Pickens early,” Yoho said.
“Tires were hooking up awesome and I held
the lead until a crash on lap two dropped me back
in the pack. I fought hard all day and am happy
with the 8th place considering all that happened.”
GBC Motorsports is thrilled to congratulate Forrest
Wharton and Garon Davis, who each secured wins
this past weekend while also pulling ahead to
nearly insurmountable leads in their respective
class championship points standings. Wharton’s
win was his 8th of the season and boosted him
to a 32-point lead over the rest of the +45 4x4
Class. For Davis, Unadilla was win number five
and puts him 48 points ahead of the other Sport
(15+) Class racers.
BNR Motorsports backed Nathan Hornacheck rode
his GBC-equipped Yamaha to his first win of the
season in the Junior B Class and did so in dominating
fashion, finishing more than 7 minutes ahead of
the competition.
Round 11 of the 2011 GNCC brings the action to
the Mountain Ridge in Somerset, Pennsylvania,
September 24-25.
GBC Motorsports would like to thank everyone
for their hard work and dedication, and for helping
us enjoy a successful 2011 ATV Motocross season.
We look forward to even more success in 2012.
