Long Beach, CA (4/2/2011) - Round
three of the Can Am GNCC series would descend upon
the Steele Creek Campground for what is one of the
most anticipated rounds of the season. The location
offers a real challenge as the steep terrain gives
way to one beautiful river bottom that makes for
some intense racing as well as being one of the
most scenic backdrops for the entire season.
4x4 Open racer Rick Cecco is no stranger to this
course and was looking forward to digging in and
getting another great finish aboard his GBC equipped
Can Am. Cecco did not get a great start but in
no time was running upfront as he gave chase to
the race leaders. Lappers always play a part in
the race and this round was no different. Pressing
forward, Cecco managed to close the distance on
the race leader as time ran out, finding himself
in the second finishing position at race end.
This marks Cecco's second podium finish of the
season and he is poised to make a serious run
at the championship.

Women's Champion Kristen Atwell once again
grabbed the Holeshot with X Rex GBC Tires

Defending Women's champion Kristen Atwell once again
grabbed the holeshot on our X Rex GBC tires and
the early lead but would run into mechanical issues
and was only able to score one lap. Atwell will
regroup and be ready to do battle at round four.
The XC1 Pro class was on the line as the weather
looked ominous. The slightest amount of rain would
have turned the event into one of survival and
had already prompted track officials to remove
the worst hill on the course. Thankfully, the
rain held off and the racers took to the track
on what ended up being one of the most ideal racing
days seen this season.

Bryan Cook
ripping up Steek Creek GNCC on GBC's Ground
Bustter II Tires
|
Bryan Cook would have a decent start and another
solid race running aboard his GBC Ground Buster
II tires. This round is almost in Cook’s
backyard and he is always a hometown favorite
as fans cheered him on all along the 10 mile course.
Cook would put in a valiant effort as he powered
his KTM through the nasty rutted and rock filled
course, ending his race day by taking the seventh
place position.
Johnny Gallagher and Jeff Pickens both entered
the woods and would spend the next two hours sorting
things out. For Gallagher, the day would be long
as he battled hard, holding off challenges and
working his way to the ninth position as the race
ended. After the event, Gallagher explained he
had felt terrible all day and usually just rode
through being sick, but not this time. The hard
training in the off season has really helped Gallagher
as he holds the seventh points position with a
lot of racing left in the season.

3 at Steel Creek |
For Jeff Pickens, getting a set up that feels
comfortable has been a challenge so far and this
race would see him again racing for another solid
finish. Pickens ended his day in the tenth spot
and stated he will be looking at some additional
options on his set up as he prepares for round
four. Thankfully, Jeff's leg injury appears to
be on the mend as he made no mention of it affecting
his performance.
The series heads to Union South Carolina for
round four on April 9th. The "Big Buck"
round is classic GNCC type terrain and another
well worn spot on the series tour. We thank all
of our GBC Motorsport racers for their hard work
and excellent racing as we look forward to seeing
how they do at the next round!
