Long Beach, CA (3/9/2011) - GBC
racers headed south to the sunny state of Florida
to tackle round one of the Can Am GNCC series. The
River Ranch facility would serve up one brutal 11
mile course that would punish both man and machine!
GBC racers would put everything they had into this
round as months of off season work and training
would meet the ten second call as the first row
of racers would take to the sand to kick off the
season.
The XC1 Pro ATV class was staged for an all out
war and our GBC racers were poised to be in the
thick of it right from the first turn. Bryan Cook
would streak out front to grab the early lead
and Cook was finish out the day with a great start
to the season in the fifth spot.

GBC's XC1
Pro Johnny Gallagher made his way through
the Flordia mud and sand to take a 8th
place finsh

Johnny Gallagher would put his off season training
to the test as he put in an excellent ride, taking
eighth. Jeffrey Pickens would have to set aside
pain from a pre season leg injury to compete here
at round one and compete he did! Pickens would
put in an impressive ride finish the day in eleventh.
In the morning, Rick Cecco got off to a great
start and was putting his GBC tires to work ripping
up the whoop and rut filled course. Unfortunately,
Cecco charge was interrupted by a fuel issue that
forced him to exit the course early to fuel, but
Cecco quickly resumed his charge to claim a very
respectable second place finish in 4x4 Open class.

GBC's Rick
Cecco was able to pull a second place
finish in the 4x4 Open Class even though
he had a fuel issue!
|
Kristen Atwell would start off her Women’s
class title defense and it would indeed be a war
as she claimed the early lead and was soon finding
pressure from the top runners in her class. Atwell
would ride well and finish fourth.
The general consensus among all the racers was
to get out of the first round with some points
and a finish and our GBC riders faired well given
one of the most torturous courses ever seen in
Florida.
The series heads north to the Aonia Pass facility
in Georgia for round two. We are very proud of
all our riders and know they will be very busy
getting set up to take the fight to the competition
on more familiar terrain.
