celebrate

Long Beach, CA (10/27/2010) - GBC
Tire’s Rick Cecco and Zac Zakowski took on
the dusty conditions at the Ironman for the final
round of the 2010 GNCC series with both racers ending
their seasons on a high note as they charged their
way to the podium, while GBC Tire’s Kristen
Atwell claimed second place in the Women’s
class.
Weather conditions in Crawfordsville, Indiana
were good, but dry weather in the region produced
an incredible amount of dust that was likened
to the silt beds of the Baja 500 and 100 races,
but GBC Tires helped Rick Cecco and Zac Zakowski
hook up and take podium finishes in the 4x4 Open
class.
GBC Tire’s Rick Cecco was in third place
in the first lap and put the hammer down to catch
Zac Zakowski, who was in the lead. The pair battled
relentlessly for three laps with Cecco persisting
to apply pressure to Zakowski. In the final lap,
Cecco overtook Zakowski for the lead and the 4x4
Open win, marking Cecco’s second straight
win. “It felt great to finish the season
on the podium. My GBC Tires hooked up great, even
in all the loose dirt and dust and helped me take
the win,” stated Rick Cecco.
The Ironman round of the 2010 GNCC series was
designated as a round where racers could show
their support for cancer awareness, and GBC Tire’s
Zac Zakowski was all decked out in special pink
gear and a pink ATV as he showed his support for
cancer awareness. “I’m really proud
to be out here supporting cancer awareness. It
is a great cause,” stated Zakowski, whose
mother is a cancer survivor.

the track in support of finding a cure as well.
The pink clad racer charged off the line and took
an early lead. Zakowski held off an attack from
fellow GBC Tire’s racer Rick Cecco for three
laps, but Zakowski ran into a bit of bad lack
in the final lap when he hit a tree and broke
a tie rod, giving the lead, and 4x4 Open win to
Cecco. Despite his mishap, Zakowski held on the
finish in a close second place in his class. “My
GBC Tires were working awesome and definitely
helped me get through all that dust out there,”
said Zakowski.

Kristen Atwell
took a 2nd place finish
|
In the Women’s class, Kristen Atwell came
on strong as she charged her way up from a mid-pack
start. Atwell kept the momentum going and began
picking riders off one by one until she reached
second place in her class. Atwell has claimed six
wins this season, and with the help of GBC Tires
was able to claim her first ever GNCC Women’s
Championship. In the afternoon XC1 Pro class, GBC
Tire’s Jeff Pickens took his season’s
best finish, claiming fifth in the Pro class, putting
him in eighth place in the Pro championship points
chase.
