GBC Racers Overcome the Mud
at Loretta Lynn’s GNCC ATV Race Loretta
Lynn's GNCC - Round 5 - Hurricane Mills, TN
- April 25, 2010
Long Beach, CA (4/30/2010)
- The racing at round #5 of the GNCC Series would
see the elements impact both the morning and afternoon
races as severe weather impacted the region. With
heavy rain turning the Tennessee countryside into
a muddy mess, our racers would put their GBC tires
to the test!
 |
Johnny Gallagher
put in his best finish of 2010 thus far
and secured a 6th place finish overall
|
In the XC1 Pro class, Johnny Gallagher and Jeffrey
Pickens would have their hands full right from
the start of the grueling two hour event. Both
racers battled right from the start as it was
anyone’s game in the conditions that lay
ahead of them. Clawing for traction, Pickens would
have a solid start followed by Gallagher as the
GBC equipped Yamaha’s streaked through the
course. Quickly it became apparent that finding
the best lines and merely surviving to the end
of the event would be an accomplishment. Heavy
and deep water caused deep ruts to appear flat
and would take rider after rider out of position.
 |
Jeff Pickens
made his way through the deep ruts and
water to land in 8th place overall
|
For Pickens, it was a battle all day as he gained
positions and then would lose them as the pack
of XC1 Pro’s mixed it up. In the end, Jeff
would find himself in 8th as the checkered flag
waved. The conditions favored Johnny Gallagher
who has proven his mud riding prowess over the
years.
Gallagher would put his skills to the test as
he worked in and out of the XC1 field finding
himself in the 6th position at race end. This
would mark Gallagher’s best finish of the
2010 GNCC season.
The morning race wasn’t spared the torturous
conditions as rain fell nearly non stop. Thunder
would shake the ground as the race got underway.
4x4 Open racer Rick Cecco was battling hard for
the lead right from the start but caution would
have to give way to sheer speed as the slick hillsides
could quickly cause bottlenecks and crashes that
could take even the most skilled rider out of
contention. Cecco rode reserved and would finish
the day in the 2nd spot.
 |
4x4 Open
Class racer, Rick Cecco used the GBC Tires
on his Powerbar Can-Am to capture a 2nd
place finish in the mud
|
After the race, Cecco commented “I’m
glad this one is over. Not much of a fan of muddy
and bottlenecked tracks; however I am thankful
that my Cecco / Powerbar Racing / GBC tire Outlander
helped me collect a solid second place finish,
and I am looking forward to a hot, dusty and fast
Yadkinville track in two weeks.”
In the 4x4 Limited class, Scott Kilby would find
bottlenecks and bad conditions impacting his ability
to make things happen. When the race ended, Kilby
would settle for a third place finish.
Forrest Whorton continued his domination of the
45+ Utility Senior class by claiming another victory!
That’s five wins for GBC Motorsports in
the Utility Senior class!
