Baxter, MN (4/20/2012) - FOX athlete Chris Borich captured the true heart of competition as he braved the elements in round four of the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series in Union, S.C., and raced his way to victory, while fellow FOX athlete Chris Bithell joined him on the podium in the No. 3 position.

The warm and dry conditions in the southeast caused hazardous conditions for racers, as dust and very little wind reduced visibility to mere inches in some parts of the course. Borich knew it was imperative to be near the front in order to keep the fast and steady pace required to win.

Borich was inside the top five off the start and charged his way into the lead by the second lap. The track was rough, with many ruts, but he prevailed and held off the competition for three grueling laps before he reached the checkered flag for the win. Borich has won three out of four rounds in the series and has a firm grasp on the points lead.

“I have to thank FOX for helping me get through this round. It was tough because you couldn’t see, and there were stumps and ruts everywhere, but my FOX suspension worked awesome through all of it,” Borich said.

Also in the XC1 class, FOX-backed racer Bithell started off in the top ten and had his work cut out for him right from the beginning.

“You had to be on someone’s grab bar to stick with them or you couldn’t see. Several times I had to come to a stop just to see where the track went,” Bithell said.

Despite the poor visibility, he pressed on and moved into the third spot by the second lap. Bithell stayed the course and finished in third place.

“The track was well designed; it had a great flow. My FOX suspension allowed me to go fast in the woods and allowed me to put some distance between myself and whoever was in my dust. It was a good day for us, and I am happy to be on the podium,” Bithell said.

Round five of the 2012 GNCC series will be held on April 28 at Park Mammoth Resort in Park City, Ky.
