Shermansdale, PA (3/10/2010)
- The start of the GNCC season has been an exciting
one for multi-time GNCC champion Rick Cecco as
he took the win at round two of the 2010 GNCC
series in Washington, GA this past weekend and
he is now tied for the 4x4 Open points lead.
Rick Cecco, who made the switch from defending
his 2009 U2 class championship to the premier
4x4 Open class this season, has come on strong
the first two rounds of the series. Cecco finished
in a close second in round one and vowed that
he would take the win at round two. “I
have every intension of winning the 4x4 Open
Championship in 2010,” stated Cecco, who
is definitely on the right track to do just
that.
With the always nerve-wracking round one out
of the way, Cecco was confident going into round
two and it showed as he came off the line in
a strong second. Being one of the first racers
going into the woods section, Cecco was content
to hold back until lap three when he began to
pick up the pace. From there Cecco battled back
and forth with Bryan Buckhannon but took over
the lead for good in lap four. “My Cecco
Racing prepped Can Am Outlander ran great. I
struggled with the track conditions early in
the race but by the 3rd lap I hit my comfort
zone and was able to turn it up a few more notches
and overtake the lead for good,” explained
Cecco.
Cecco finished the five lap race with a time
of 02:04:15, giving him the 4x4 Open win by
more than a minute over the competition. Cecco’s
win has also put him in a points tie for the
number one spot, but he is determined to put
a gap between himself and the rest of his class.
“My plan is simple - I’m going to
go out there and win races,” he said adamantly.
Round three of the 2010 GNCC series will be
held at Steel Creek in Morganton, NC on March
20th.
