ACU British Quad Championship

2010 ACU British Quad Championship Season Preview
Double Header this Weekend at Desertmartin - May 8-9, 2010

United Kingdom (5/6/2010) - The fantastic Grand Prix Motocross track at Porters Pit, Desertmartin, provides the venue for the opening two rounds of the 2010 ACU Goldspeed British Quad Championship this coming weekend, Quad Racing Ireland promoting the double-header on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of May.

Paul Winrow - Honda TRX 450R ATV
#1 Paul Winrow - 10x Champion
With an entry list that includes the current and a former European Champion, a record winning British Champion and half of the top ten quad riders in Europe, the two days of racing around the challenging sand based circuit, with the addition of the full GP circuit being used on Sunday, promises to provide a superb racing spectacle as the Elite of British Quad racing do battle.

Having secured the number 1 plate for a record 10th time in 2009, Paul Winrow will no doubt be a strong contender for the honours again, this time with the factory backing of KTM on the Team KTM UK machine, but as the competition has shown over the recent years the depth of talent in the field has increased dramatically with very little to separate the top ten riders.

Paul Holmes - KTM ATV
#3 Paul Holmes
Runner up to Winrow in 2009, current European and triple Under 21 British Champion, Paul Holmes, will certainly be a threat on the Holmes Racing KTM having already dominated the Scottish Championship, with Winrow’s new Team mate Jason Macbeth showing that he has also adapted well to the Austrian marque with a podium finish at the opening European Championship meeting in April.

Former European and British Champion, John Mitchell, knows how to win around the Desert and will make the long trip from Stornoway aiming to get his 2010 campaign of to a good start on the ATV World Yamaha, while Mark Watson has shown tremendous speed on the D3 DWT Motoworks KTM, Watson taking two podium finishes at the recent European meeting at Langrish.

SMR Honda’s Stefan Murphy finished 4th in the series in 2009 and is no stranger to the podium, while Leon Beda will no doubt be aiming to repeat or better his outstanding 3rd overall at the venue last year on the 131 Racing Yamaha.

Justin Reid - Can-Am DS450 ATV
#14 Justin Reid
Not to be outdone by their mainland counterparts, the series is well represented with four local riders contending the full 2010 Championship all of whom have extensive knowledge of the circuit. Having finished 7th in the overall placings in 2009, Comber rider Justin Reid on the Justwin Racing Can-Am took a superb second moto 3rd at last years event, with current Ulster Championship leader, David Cowan, making the trip from Banbridge worthwhile with an opening moto 4th on the Cowan Haulage Yamaha.

Lisburn’s 2008 Ulster Champion, David Wray, is also no stranger to success at this level and finished 7th overall at last year’s meeting, while double Ulster Champion, Sean Goss, will be hoping to continue his excellent run of form shown lately and should finish well inside the top ten.

The meeting also plays host to the opening two-rounds of the British Over 40 / Masters Championship which proved to be a huge success in 2009 with some close fought battles, and with Quad and Solo support races swelling the total entry to over one hundred and fifty riders there will be some fantastic action for everyone to enjoy and not to be missed.

A great day for all the family can be had with entry to the event only £5 each day for adults with kids under-12 admission free, and Desertmartin Motocross Circuit is located approximately two miles outside Desertmartin Village on Rectory Road, just off the main B40 Desertmartin to Draperstown road.
